Commentary

Right then, that is it from this game and Australia zoom into the semifinals on the back of a win just like South Africa did in their last game and those two will now be waiting for each other in a few days' time. There are still a couple of matches left in the group stage of this competition, one of them is going on right now. England have set Pakistan a target of 338 runs in Kolkata and you can catch our coverage of the enticing run chase by simply switching tabs. Cheers!

Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia says it feels great to take the winning feeling into the semis. Mentions that this was a really good wicket and he is not too upset with anything. Adds that it feels good to have all 15 available and in form to pick anyone on any given day. On the innings of Mitchell Marsh, he says that the most satisfying thing was the way he ended the game and stood there. Also adds that it feels good to win 7 in a row and the team is on a high and would looking to go all the way.

Bangladesh skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto says that the two run-outs were a very crucial moment as they lost their momentum. He adds that if they could score 340-350 runs, things might turn to their side but they had to do good with their bowling. He also says that they are going to rectify their mistakes from the World Cup and work on it. Adds that there are a few positives also like the batting of Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan too had a good World Cup but it is not about individual performances, so they will look back at all nine matches and will improve.

Mitchell Marsh is the Player of the Match for his stellar ton. He says that it feels great to wrap up the group stage with a win and advance to the semis. Adds that he backed himself and that's the way he loves to play cricket. Also adds that with Travis Head coming in he had to play at three and tick the box in a pressure situation and he did well but he also feels that he had not played well and as per his liking in a few games in the middle but this is what he would like to play like going ahead as well. Mentions that it has been a tough week with the personal issues and a lot of traveling but it feels good to progress with a winning momentum. Mentions that the match against South Africa would be a cracker and he just can't wait for that game to begin.

The Presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the game, Pat Cummins won the toss and had no hesitation in bowling first on a wicket that looked excellent for batting. Bangladesh were happy to bat first and got off to a flier of a start against the likes of Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins but it was Sean Abbott who drew first blood for Australia and then Adam Zampa took control of the middle phase. Bangladesh batters all got off to starts but threw their wickets away and a couple of big run-outs really hurt them. Towhid Hridoy though played a lovely knock of 71 and a cameo from Mehidy Hasan down the order took them over the 300-run mark. Coming to the chase, after losing an early wicket, Australia never looked back and Mitchell Marsh almost single-handedly battered the Bangladeshi bowling attack to seal the win for Australia.

Bangladesh's World Cup campaign has ended with a seventh defeat but a solid batting performance earlier in the game has all but secured a Champions Trophy place for them. Having put on a decent total on the board, they would have expected a better showing with the ball but they have rather been treated to a thrashing. Taskin Ahmed bowled well up top and got an early wicket as well but the spinners remained largely ineffective. Mahedi Hasan was fairly economical but the likes of Mehidy Hasan and Nasum Ahmed were dealt with ease. Mustafizur Rahman had to bowl the difficult overs and he too went for a bit like everyone else. In the end, they simply didn't create enough wicket-taking opportunities and were put away with ease.

SEVENTH HEAVEN FOR AUSTRALIA! They have successfully chased down their highest-ever total in World Cups and have done so with utmost ease. Needing 307 for the win, Australia needed a quick start but lost Travis Head very early. Mitchell Marsh came out with aggressive intent and got away a few quick boundaries while David Warner started to get into his groove at the other end as well and racked up a fifty. The pair put on a 120-run stand to put Australia in cruise control before Warner got out. Marsh kept battling through a bit of cramp and powered his way to a sensational hundred. Steven Smith played a nice anchored innings at the other end and even brought up his half-century. Marsh though was the star, hitting 9 sixes en route to an unbeaten 177 off just 132 balls with the stand between him and Smith remaining unbeaten on 175 runs. A very, very strong performance from the resurgent Aussies.

Commentary

We are back with the run-chase as the umpires make their way into the middle followed by the players of Bangladesh who could be seen positioning themselves to their respective field positions. David Warner and Travis Head are the two openers for Australia,  while Taskin Ahmed will bowl the first over.

... RUN CHASE...

Bowling from the Aussies was toothless in thefirst Powerplay but they managed to keep things under control with effective bowling right at the end. Adam Zampa was brilliant with the ball once again as he scalped a couple giving away 32 in his 10. Sean Abbott took a couple as well but was a bit expensive today, while Marcus Stoinis chipped in with a wicket as well. Marnus Labuschagne was a live wire in the field as he took a couple of catches and inflicted a couple of run-outs on his own being the difference maker as he got rid of Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mahmudullah when both of them looked like switching up a gear or two with committed fielding efforts. The target looks a decent one but the track would only get better to bat on as the day progresses. Will Australia be able to chase this down or do we have an upset on the cards? Let's find out in a while with the run-chase.

Marnus Labuschagne is down for a quick chat. He says the opposition scored really well, especially from the top surpassing the 300-run mark. Goes on to add that his secret of doing good in the field is working on the on-field awareness and moving the body into positions to field good. He also mentions they have to start well so that they can chase the score easily.

After being put in to bat first Bangladesh started a bit watchfully but capitalized fairly in the last few overs of the first powerplay scoring 62 off the first 10 overs. The first wicket fell on 76 as Tanzid Hasan edged one back to Sean Abbott off his bowling. Najmul Hossain Shanto walked in next and played well alongside Litton Das before Das lofted one down the throat of Marnus Labuschagne on an individual score of 36. The arrival of Towhid Hridoy boosted the strike rate even more and the duo of Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy added 64 runs together for the 4th wicket partnership. Mahmudullah was brilliant while he stayed but an unlucky dismissal for him in the form of a run-out cut short his innings that looked promising as he was dismissed on 32 of 28 deliveries. Wickets kept falling but the strike rate was maintained well by the Bangladesh batters. Towhid Hridoy was the top scorer for them as he scored 74 runs. Everybody got starts but failed to capitalize with a big one. Mehidy Hasan played a brilliant cameo of 29 runs right at the end to add to the total.

A solid batting performance from Bangladeshi batters and Towhid Hridoy in particular helps Bangladesh manage to score 306 for the loss of 8 wickets in their quota of 50 overs.

Should have been another run out to close proceedings but Marnus Labuschagne has made a mess of it! Sean Abbott serves another slower short ball over the stumps. Taskin Ahmed is way too early in the shot and misses, getting hit on the body. The ball drops in front of the bowler and the batters try to hustle through for the single. Sean Abbott picks up the ball and throws it back to Marnus Labuschagne at the bowler's end who gets quickly behind the stumps but is unable to collect the ball cleanly and Taskin gets through for a leg bye. Bangladesh finish with 306/8!

49.51

Goes full and wide now, Mahedi Hasan throws his bat at it and gets an outside edge that flies down to third man. Picks up a single as well.

49.40

Another slower bumper outside off and at a difficult height as well. Mahedi Hasan tries to take it on but is well beaten.

49.3W

OUT! RUN OUT! Mahedi Hasan had absolutely no idea where he was going and that is a poor way to run out your partner. This is banged in very short but slower too, Nasukm tries to get on top of the bounce but ends up hitting it down onto the deck. Mahedi Hasan at the other end is already halfway down to the striker's end as Sean Abbott simply picks up the ball and dislodges the bails to run out Nasum at the bowler's end.

49.21

Slower and shorter over mid-wicket and this is pulled toward deep mid-wicket for just a single.

Mahedi Hasan walks out to bat in the final over.

49.1W

OUT! CAUGHT! A wicket off the first ball of the final over. This is banged in a bit short and outside off, Mehidy Hasan looks to take on the pull but is way too early into his shot. The ball gets sliced off the side of the bat and goes flat to the right of Pat Cummins at short extra cover. The Aussie skipper gets across quickly and takes a good low catch. End of a crucial cameo from Mehidy Hasan.

FOUR! Gets a glove on it and the 300 comes up for Bangladesh, the first time they have gone past that landmark in this World Cup as well. A slower bumper this over leg stump and angling down. Mehidy Hasan gets inside the line and pulls but gets a bit of glove that takes it past the diving keeper and into the fine leg fence.

48.41

Banged in short over leg stump, nudged away off the hips past short fine leg for just a single.

48.32

Way too full and wide outside off, Nasum Ahmed has to reach for it and does well to squeeze it wide of the man at third man for another brace.

48.22

Slower one, on a good length and down leg, Nasum Ahmed gets a tickle off his pads and down toward fine leg. The batters get back for two with ease.

Done and dusted with the pre-match formalities and it is now time to get the play underway. The umpires are out in the middle and so are the players of Australia. Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das will open the innings for Bangladesh. Josh Hazlewood has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. A couple of slips in place, let's go...

We are just a few minutes away from the start of the game but first, the two sets of players along with their mascots line up for the national anthems. It will be the national anthem of Bangladesh first followed by Australia's national anthem.

Bangladesh's stand-in captain Najmul Hossain Shanto says he would have liked to bat first anyway. Adds that they are determined to win this match and they are pretty much sure they will win the match. Informs that they have a few changes to their side with Mahedi Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman and Nasum Ahmed playing on behalf of Shakib Al Hasan, Shoriful Islam and Tanzim Hasan Sakib. Ends by saying that they are aware of the permutations regarding the Champions Trophy place.

Australia's skipper, Pat Cummins says they would like to bowl first as it looks like a good track but it might do a bit in the morning. Adds that they have made two changes as Steven Smith is back and Sean Abbott is in as well with Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc being rested. Mentions that he will be hoping to restrict the opponents early on and do well with the chase as well. Says that he doesn't think they have played their best cricket as a unit so far but would be hoping to do that today. Also adds that they were all on cloud 9 with the way they won the last game and especially the batting performance by Maxwell.

Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim (WK), Towhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan, Mahedi Hasan (In for Tanzim Hasan Sakib), Nasum Ahmed (In for Shakib Al Hasan), Taskin Ahmed, and Mustafizur Rahman (In for Shoriful Islam).

Australia (Playing XI) - David Warner, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith (In for Glenn Maxwell), Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (WK), Marcus Stoinis, Sean Abbott (In for Mitchell Starc), Pat Cummins (C), Adam Zampa, and Josh Hazlewood.

TOSS - Pat Cummins spins the coin and it lands in his favor. Australia have decided to BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT - Simon Doull is pitchside and he says it might get to a high of 32 degrees Celsius and it is sunny but there was rain overnight, so, the outfield might be slow. Adds it 61 meters to the leg side for the right-hander, 67 meters to the off side. Matthew Hayden joins him and says that it is the first day game here so, what will be a good score isn't quite known isn't sure but there will be runs to be scored and teams will look at at least 300. Mentions that it is a bit cold which is unusual in India and might have something in it for the bowlers early on. Hayden also adds that it is one of those pitches that seems like a batting haven.

Steven Smith is all-set to be back in the Playing XI for Australia after missing out in the previous game due to a case of Vertigo. In all likeliness, Glenn Maxwell will be the one who is rested and Sean Abbott might also get a game in in place of Mitchell Starc or even Josh Hazlewood.

Bangladesh has had a very disappointing campaign and have faced 6 defeats. However, they have won their last game against the Lankans and will be confident coming into this match. The bowling unit has fared well in patches but has often leaked a lot of runs. The form of their openers will be a topic of discussion for the team but the form of a few batters down the order might provide the stability in the batting lineup. Mahmadullah has also played some fine knocks and the experience of Mushfiqur Rahim is an additional benefit to the team but the latter has to do more. This team has some good names in the squad but the batting and bowling unit hasn't been complementing each other which leads to their loss and without Shakib Al Hasan, the team misses out on a genuine all-rounder. This is the last match in the league stages for both teams so it will be an exciting contest to watch. The Aussies will want to keep their winning momentum going whereas Bangladesh will look to end their tournament on a high. Toss and team news to follow soon.

Australia have already qualified for the semi-finals courtesy of a heroic knock by Glenn Maxwell and some very patient batting by their skipper, Pat Cummins in their last match against Afghanistan. The Aussies have shown their prowess after losing their opening two matches, winning six on the trot. David Warner, Travis Head, and Mitchell Marsh are very strong at the top of the order with Maxwell and Cummins taking care of business towards the end. Adam Zampa has been amazing in these spin-friendly conditions and he has troubled all the batters. The pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Cummins can prove to be lethal throughout the innings. Overall, this is a very balanced and strong squad and you can never write them off which was demonstrated by Maxwell and Cummins in the last game.

Hello and a very warm welcome folks. We are at the MCA Stadium in Pune for match number 43 of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 where Australia will go up against Bangladesh. The first game of the final three remaining group stage matches and not one that bears too much significance on deciding a semifinal spot but is certainly important for both sides for different reasons. Australia will look to take winning momentum into the knockout stages whereas Bangladesh will hope for an upset and take a giant leap toward securing a Champions Trophy berth for 2025.

... MATCH DAY ...

In the 43rd encounter of the ODI World Cup 2023, Australia faces off against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. This clash is not just a cricket match; it's a tale of contrasting destinies. Australia, having solidified their place in the semifinals, emerges from a turbulent start to the tournament, gradually reclaiming their status as formidable contenders. In stark contrast, Bangladesh, the inaugural team to bow out of the ICC mega-event, finds themselves mired in disappointment, having secured only two victories in their campaign. The stage is set at the MCA Stadium, renowned as a haven for batters, with an average score soaring to 305 runs. The ground's short dimensions and exceptional pitches have allowed batters to flourish, while early innings challenges await fast bowlers and spinners alike. Australia, recovering from two initial setbacks, has rallied with six consecutive triumphs, showcasing the prowess of their revamped batting lineup featuring David Warner, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and the explosive Glenn Maxwell who single-handedly took Afghanistan's dream for semi-finals qualifications away in the previous game. The bowling unit, led by the redoubtable Adam Zampa, has proven its mettle. However, the looming uncertainty of Steven Smith's participation due to vertigo adds a layer of complexity to Australia's middle order. Australia, eyeing a seventh consecutive victory, emerges as the clear favourite in this encounter, aiming to overcome Bangladesh and secure a dominant position entering the semifinals. Bangladesh, in stark contrast, navigates a disheartening campaign, marred by inconsistent performances from their top order, escalating pressure on a fragile middle order. Their bowlers have struggled to secure regular breakthroughs, failing to capitalize on spin-friendly conditions. The injury sidelining Shakib Al Hasan further compounds Bangladesh's woes. The absence of Shakib, who played a pivotal role in Bangladesh's win over Sri Lanka with an 82-run innings and two wickets, deals a severe blow to the Bangladeshi camp. As the world awaits this event, the Australian team strives for another triumph, eyeing a seamless win to carry their winning momentum into the Semi-Finals, while Bangladesh seeks redemption in their final World Cup bout. It is a clash for dignity for the Bangla Tigers and a road to the semi-finals for the Kangaroos. Who will come on top? Will have to find out.
