Right then, this wraps up this exciting T20I Ashes clash! With this victory, Australia secures those two crucial points and claims the top spot in Pool B whereas, things are getting more serious for the defending champions with this loss and just a couple of games to spare. However, the action in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, 2024 continues as next up is another exciting contest in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup where the hosts West Indies will face a challenge from the associates Uganda. This match will began on Sunday, 9th June and the first ball will be bowled at 6 am IST (12.30 am GMT). But do join us for the pre-match build-up. Cheers, and take care!

Mitchell Marsh, the captain of Australia says that he is very pleased with that effort and their all-round play was phenomenal with experienced players stepping up as well. Adds that they learned a few lessons from their first game and got off to a brilliant start. Mentions that the bowlers know their job well and he didn't try to change too much. Reckons that Pat Cummins was outstanding and bowled really well from the hard end. Mentions that they want to keep learning and want to stick to their game plan going into future games.

Jos Buttler, the skipper of England, says they came up with a lot of intent and also bowled really well in the mid-overs phase. Adds that the conditions were quite extreme with the shorter boundary on one side. On being asked about Jofra Archer's performance, Buttler says it is great to have him back in the ranks and he is bowling at good lines and lengths and says he has a great variety and skill set.  Says that Zampa bowled really well and credits Australia's overall performance. Ends up by saying that they need to dust themselves out and head on for their remaining games.

Adam Zampa is the Player of the Match for his fine bowling effort. He says that they play against England a lot and know the players well and also they had prepared well, with the breeze and the long boundary on one side. Adds that he is trying to sum up the conditions and it was hard to play cross-bat shots. Mentions that some of the wickets in West Indies are such that you need to sum up on the spot and got some useful information from how Adil Rashid bowled as well. Reckons that they have great depth in the bowling attack and they'll play their roles well.

The presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the game, Australia was invited to set the total, and boy, did they start strong! Right from the first ball, Travis Head and David Warner went all guns blazing, making the most of the fielding restrictions. They smashed boundaries effortlessly and totally dominated the Powerplay. Then, Mitchell Marsh stepped in and compounded the strong foundation laid by the openers. Despite the English pacers trying to slow things down, they couldn't take wickets when needed. Marsh played a solid captain's innings, scoring 35 runs. Australia hovered above 10 runs per over, with key contributions from Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, pushing them past 200. In the chase, despite a strong start laid by the openers, England lost their momentum during the mid-overs phase, as wickets tumbled in quick succession, and unfortunately, they couldn't recover from that collapse.

Australia, on the other hand, struggled to get the desired start as their bowlers were hammered by the English openers. Despite using four seamers, they couldn't manage a breakthrough in the first six overs and were instead taken to the cleaners. As soon as the fielding restrictions were lifted, Marsh handed the ball to Adam Zampa, who delivered a couple of quick wickets in the span of just a few deliveries, thanks to some crafty bowling. Marcus Stoinis was quick enough to remove Will Jacks as well. Pat Cummins was brought back for his second spell and proved to be a game-changer. He conceded just four runs and also claimed the crucial wicket of the dangerous-looking Moeen. Mitchell Marsh rotated his bowlers to perfection and the bowlers exploited the conditions very well. Adam Zampa finished up with sensational figures of 4 overs and 28 runs with a couple of wickets. The Australian quicks also reaped the benefits of bowling cutters and varying the pace as Pat Cummins got two, while Marcus Stoinis and Josh Hazlewood finished up with one each.

AUSTRALIA WIN BY 36 RUNS AND REGISTER THEIR SECOND WIN OF THE GROUP STAGE IN A DOMINATING FASHION! Wheras, it is now getting a bit more worrisome for England for their journey ahead. Chasing a challenging total of 202, England got off to a solid start. Openers Jos Buttler and Phil Salt showed great intent, finding boundaries right from the beginning. They successfully navigated the first six overs and capitalized on every poor delivery, making their intentions clear while also keeping up with the asking rate. Phil Salt was the first to go, scoring a solid 37 that gave England a strong foundation of 73 runs. Jos Buttler, despite his great start, couldn't turn it into a big score and got out soon after. Will Jacks didn't make much of an impact, and Jonny Bairstow's struggle at the crease ended without causing much damage. Those two quick wickets really hit England hard, causing the asking rate to skyrocket. Moeen's departure after a brisk 25 added to their woes, and they found themselves completely cornered. Consequently, finding boundaries became a real challenge, and England literally crawled in the backend, eventually falling short by 36 runs.

A dot to end another fine oover from Pat Cummins. The cutter yet again, bowled a tad fuller and outside off. Chris Jordan swings hard at it but fails to connect.

Chris Jordan is in at number 8.

18.5W

OUT! CAUGHT! Straight to the man and Pat Cummins does get his second wicket. Hard length, taking pace off and bowling it outside off. Liam Livingstone holds his shape and flat-bats it down to long off where Mitchell Starc settles himself inside the ropes and catches it just to his left.

18.41

TAKEN! OH, NOT QUITE! Pat Cummins with another cutter into the pitch and this is bowled outside the off stump. Harry Brook just throws the kicthen sink at it and gets a top edge. The ball lobs up over short third where Adam Zampa leaps high up and grabs it brilliantly with the right hand over the shoulder. However, the ball pops out as Zampa thuds back onto the ground and the batters get a isngle.

18.31

Pace on this time and Pat Cummins nails the yorker at the stumps, Liam Livingstone squirts it away off the toe end of the bat and past square leg for another single.

Just short of a length and outside off, slower too, Harry Brook sets up deep in the crease and mistimes the heave badly down to long on for one more.

Right through! Liam Livingstone is early to back away and Adam Zampa fires it right in the blockhole around the toes. Liam cue-ends it back past the keeper and down to fine leg for a couple of runs.

Halt! The ball has disappered near the sightscreen and hence the fourth umpire walks with a box of balls. The new leather is selected and we are good to go...

17.46

SIX! High and handsome but a little too late it seems. A boundary after 21 balls in a chase of over 200 and that's just not going to do it for England. Floated full and it is the googly on leg stump, Liam Livingstone steps out and whacks it a long way over the long on fence and the ball seems to be lost.

17.31

Flatter delivery around off stump, Harry Brook firms it off the back foot to wide long off and collects another single.

17.21

Shorter one on the stumps, sliding back on quickly, Liam Livingstone backs away and hits it down to long off for another single.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The umpires have taken their positions on the field and so have the players of Australia. It will be skipper Jos Buttler and Phil Salt who will open the innings for England with the latter taking strike. Mitchell Starc has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...

... The Run Chase ...

Right then, 202 runs needed for the reigning T20 World Champions to get a win against their eternal rivals and given how the competition has gone by, it will be extremely difficult. However, England do have the batting lineup to get this third-highest chase in the history of the Men's T20 World Cup and this could really end up being an all-time classic. Join us in a bit as the all-important run chase is up next.

David Warner is down for a quick chat. Warner says that he thinks it is a competitve total. They knew there will be spin inside the Powerplay and says they tried to get as many runs as they could against them. He reckons that it's a good score and bowling cutters on this surface does the trick. Says they had to apply pressure on them and thinks they did pretty well in this regard.

England will be fairly deflated after that bowling performance and the fact that they took so much time to bowl their 20 overs, they were left somewhat frustrated as well. The decision to start with spin from both ends didn't work out as after a tidy first over, the part-timer, Will Jacks was taken to the cleaners and they were under the pump from thereon. England bowled decently through the middle overs but couldn't pick up wickets and it was then a double blow for the second time that they were able to get back in the game. It was a fine last over from Chris Jordan but by then, the damage had been done and England now have a daunting task ahead.

Riding on a brisk start, Australia managed to get 22 runs each off the 2nd and 4th overs which put them in the driver's seat. David Warner looked particularly dangerous but fell inside the Powerplay and then, Travis Head followed him to the pavilion as well. Still, 74 runs in the first 6 overs was the perfect start and even through the middle overs, they were able to keep on scoring at a decent rate. Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell got a few crucial runs before Marcus Stoinis played a fine cameo and was aided by Matthew Wade as they managed to lift Australia over the 200-run mark, the first of this competition.

Pheww, that was ome end to the first innings and overall, what an exciting watch that was! Full of boundaries, exciting cricket and a bit of that old flame between the two rivals but at the halfway mark, it will be the reigning ODI World Champions who will be very pleased with that total on the board.

DRAMA! Full in length, angling away outside off, Matthew Wade leans on it and drives it straight to mid off and sets off for a quick single. The fielder is quick to pick and throw at the non-striker's end. Wade dives to get home and Jordan collects the ball and breaks the stumps and appeals for a run out. Hang on, Wade is absolutely unaware of it and tries to run for the second but Jordan uproots the stump seeing Wade trying to sneak another run. TV Umpire checks and confirms that Wade did well to get back in just in the nick of time. Only a single then. NOT OUT. Australia finish high at 201.

Is that a run out? Matthew Wade hits the ball straight to mid off and scampers through for one. The throw comes in quickly and Chris Jordan whips off the bails at the bowler's end but Wade seems to be in by then. However, Wade threatens to sneak an extra run and Jordan uproots one stump. The replays show that there's no problem with the first attempt and Wade is in. But, in the second attempt also, Wade just managed to plant his foot in the crease just before the stump was uprooted. NOT OUT!

Mitchell Starc is the next man in.

19.5W

OUT! RUN OUT! This is turning out to be an excellent final over for England. Slower short-pitched bumper on the stumps line, Pat Cummins gets deceived by the pace off and doesn't connect the swipe across the line. Matthew Wade wants to be on the strike for the last delivery and he is already more than halfway towards the striker's end. Jos Buttler grabs it behind the stumps and throws it towards the runner's end where Chris Jordan collects the ball and flashes off the bails. Pat Cummins is not even in the frame.

Pat Cummins is the new man in.

19.4W

OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Jordan gets his 100th T20I wicket. Bangs it short in length, into the body of the batter, Marcus Stoinis tries to pull it over mid-wicket but he does it playing it too close to the body, hence, fails to generate the requisite power and finds Harry Brook at deep mid-wicket. A good crucial cameo from Marcus Stoinis comes to an end.

19.31

Short and on the top of off and middle, Matthew Wade pulls it flat along the ground towards deep mid-wicket for a single. 200 up for Australia. The first 200 score of this ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

19.31wd

WIDE! Way too outside the guideline on a fuller length, Matthew Wade shoulders arms at it. Wide given.

19.21

Short and angling into the batter, down the leg side, Marcus Stoinis pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a single.

19.14

FOUR! Cracking shot! Length ball on the body of the batter, Marcus Stoinis stays leg side of the ball and pulls it with a flat-bat towards the left of long on where Harry Brook dives but fails to make a stop.

What was Wade trying to do here? An appeal for caught behind and up goes the finger. Guns it on the back of a length, right on the top of off, and gets an extra bit of bounce on the surface as well. Matthew Wade pre-meditates and tries to reverse scoop it over short third and fails to connect it as the ball gets heavy on him with the bounce. The English players appeal and celebrate as they believe that the ball brushed off the bat but UltraEdge shows that no bat is involved and the ball just brushed his forearm. Also, England will have an extra fielder inside the ring for the final over as they have failed to finish their overs in the stipulated timeframe.

18.52

That is a real steepler! Banged in well short and slower too around off, Matthew Wade tries to fetch and pull but miscues it badly into the open space around mid-wicket for a couple of runs.

18.41

Just short! Back of a length and outside off, Marcus Stoinis reaches out and toe-ends it uppishly towards mid off where Harry Brook dives ahead and just cannot get to the ball. He gets it on the half-volley and gets his body behind it. The batter get a single.

18.30

Back of length, and a leg-cutter outside the off stump. Marcus Stoinis reaches out for it and slaps it straight to extra cover.

18.21lb

Length on the leg stump. Matthew Wade misses the flick on the inside edge and gets hit on the front pad, and the ball rolls to backward square leg for a leg bye.

18.14

EDGED AND FOUR! Streaky but Wade will take it with open arms! An off-cutter on a fullish length, around off, Matthew Wade plays it inside the line of the ball and it goes off the leading edge towards deep third for a boundary.

Sees the batter backing, Rashid drops it full and on off, Marcus Stoinis fails to get to the pitch of the ball and lofts it off the inside half of the bat to long on for a couple of more runs.

17.41

Good length outside the off-stump. Matthew Wade backs away and slices the cut to deep backward point for a single.

17.30

On a length at the stumps. Wade pulls out at the last moment and fends it to his right. Well, Wade seemed to pull out but he ends up playing at it and the umpire doesn't deem it a dead ball. Wade isn't quite pleased but the umpire is having none of it.

17.24

FOUR! Wade has made his intentions clear! Too wide and very full, outside off, Matthew Wade latches onto the width, and smashes it through covers for a boundary.

However, the ball pops out as Zampa thuds back onto the ground and the batters get a isngle.

Drinks! Well, the game is hanging in the balance at the moment with Australia striking a strong comeback, courtesy of Adam Zampa's crafty bowling which garnered them the pricy wickets of the English openers Jos Buttler and Phil Salt who looked dangerous. At halway, Australia would be aiming to get a couple of more wickets to exert more pressure on their arch-rivals. Whereas, England do have a luxury of a strong batting depth.

NOT OUT!

Good length outside the off-stump. Matthew Wade backs away and slices the cut to deep backward point for a single.

On a length at the stumps. Wade pulls out at the last moment and fends it to his right. Well, Wade seemed to pull out but he ends up playing at it and the umpire doesn't deem it a dead ball. Wade isn't quite pleased but the umpire is having none of it.

Tim David takes a good stride forward for an expansive lofted shot over covers but hits it flatly and doesn't get the requisite distance. The ball sails flat and into the safe hands of Liam Livingstone patrolling the deep covers. A crucial wicket for England.

OUT! STUMPED! Jos Buttler almost made a mess of that one but England do have a breakthrough. Liam Livingstone keeps bowling the leg-breaks to the right-handers and flights this one up nicely on a length and drifts it in from around off. Mitchell Marsh is drawn forward but the ball turns away after pitching and beats the bat. Buttler misses the stumps on the first occasion but the replays show that he did enough on the second attempt and Marsh could only get his back foot onto the line and not inside it in time.

Is that out? Quick glovework from Jos Buttler as he flashes off the bails in a blink. The side-on replay shows that Mitchell Marsh's back foot is marginally outside of the popping crease. OUT loads up on the giant screen.

12.44

FOUR! Now, that would have been a wide but Glenn Maxwell does much better and picks up a boundary instead. Slower bumper, dug in well short and wide, Maxwell goes chasing after it and manages to get enough power on it to get it over backward point for a boundary.

12.41wd

WIDE! Ooh, maybe a tad harsh call for the bowler. Full and wide, Chris Jordan nails the wide yorker and flirts with the tramline but the umpire feels it is just wide enough and extends his arms.

12.36

SIX! Oh, that has been sliced all the way! Bangs it in on a hard length and outside off, Glenn Maxwell throws his bat at it and ends up slicing the ball off the outer half and over Will Jacks at third man for a maximum.

12.20

Oh, what was that from Glenn Maxwell? With how the field is set up, Chris Jordan goes full and wide, almost a bit too wide and Maxwell goes a long way across the off stump trying to get it over the mid-wicket region but gets into a horrible poistion and ends up scooping it wide of mid-wicket. Jonny Bairstow tries his best to get there but just doesn't reach it and surprisingly, the batters didn't even take a run.
