Commentary

Right then, Australia have got their campaign underway with a win and are building up nicely to that clash against eternal rivals England in a couple of days' time. The only downside was Mitchell Starc hobbling off the playing field but later on it was confirmed as just a cramp which is great news. We have had 10 matches so far and there are still a few teams who haven't yet taken the field, one of them being Pakistan who will play the next game of the tournament against an in-form USA side. That match will be played on Thursday, 6 June in Dallas, Texas and the match will begin at 9 pm IST (3.30 pm GMT) but you can tune in a lot sooner for the build-up. Cheers!

The victorious skipper of Australia, Mitchell Marsh says to begin the tournament with a victory is always a good thing. Says that the contribution of Marcus Stoinis was key for the side as he took the game deep and kept landing those big shots. Informed that it was just a bit of a cramp for Mitchell Starc and nothing to be worried about. Adds that they are looking forward to playing England next up and they are excited with the wickets being the way they are as a closer game between Oman and Australia is good for the game in the bigger picture.

The captain of Oman, Aqib Ilyas says the tournament is set up good and losing in the Super Over and doing then doing well against a big team is good. Adds that the credit goes to the bowlers and just that one over where Marcus Stoinis got a life and then got 26 off the over changed the game. Mentions that they have good spinners in the side and even the pacers bowl good but it's just that one fielding mishap happened. On his catch, he says that somewhile back, Zeeshan Maqsood took one stellar catch and he wanted to replicate that and wanted to do something magical against the Aussies. Adds that they changed their plans and tried to bowl away from the slot but it was a bit late and goes on to say that they have quality batters and it is just the big occasion that has got the better of them. Ends by saying that they are looking forward to the next game against Scotland who are a team they have played against quite a lot.

Marcus Stoinis is the Player of the Match for his fine all-round showing. He says that it is a nice start and they are happy to get the win and everybody got to bowl. Adds that he was looking to hit the ball hard along the ground and then he picked his bowlers and took them on. Mentions that it was a bit harder to face the spinners rather than the pacers as the ball was keeping up and down for them more. Adds that he bowled a lot of cross seemed deliveries as the balls were keeping low occasionally so he tried to mix it with the bouncers as well.

The Presentation ceremony...

Oman will look back at this game and they will think that they could have really pushed Australia down to the wire in this game but that's where the difference between the top teams and the rest of the pack lies, they make you pay even if you give them half a chance. Oman were brilliant with the ball for about two-thirds of the game and then with the bat as well, the middle order and even the tail managed to get some big hits away. They simply lost too many wickets in the Powerplay which pegged them back and from there on, it was always going to be a bridge too far. Ayaan Khan starred with a 36-run knock and Mehran Khan got a fine cameo of 27 runs from jsut 16 balls as Oman managed to avoid getting bundled out and scored a few useful runs towards the end.

Having put on 164 runs on the back of a scintillating knock from Marcus Stoinis and a gritty fifty from David Warner, Australia managed to pick up wickets in the Powerplay. Mitchell Starc was upbeat after a fine few performances at the backend of the Indian T20 League and picked up a wicket in the first over and set the tone for the rest of the bowlers. Marcus Stoinis followed his heroics with the bat by picking up a couple of quick wickets and the Adam Zampa followed it up with a couple of wickets of his own. Zampa did get hit for a few boundaries and so did Josh Hazlewood but by then the damage had been done. Stoinis finished with three wickets and became only the third player in a Men's T20 World Cup game to score a fifty and pick three wickets as Nathan Ellis closed out the innings with a couple of wickets to his name as well.

Australia are up and running in their quest to hold three major Men's international accolades at the same time having already bagged the World test Championship and the ODI World Cup last year but it was a hard-fought win against a gritty Oman side. It might look straightforward on paper given the 39-run victory margin but the Aussies had to dig deep, especially with the bat to get this win.

Commentary

We are back with the chase. The umpires make their way to the middle followed by the players of Australia who take their respective field positions. Kashyap Prajapati and Pratik Athavale walks out as the openers for Oman while Mitchell Starc will open the attack for Australia.

... The Run Chase ...

Marcus Stoinis, the star with the bat for Australia is down for a chat. He says that he is happy with how they finished and it felt difficult to play normal cricketing shots on this wicket. Adds that the way David Warner played, it shows experience and he doesn't panic and can adjust to different conditions. Mentions that they were going to accelerate regardless of what happened in the 15th over.

The bowling from Oman was superb to start with as they stuck to their plans and bowled consistently in good areas. The bowlers were doing well up until the 14th over and it was that expensive 15th over from Mehran Khan that awakened the Aussies and they smashed 84 runs in the last 6 overs. Mehran Khan took a couple while Bilal Khan and Kaleemullah took one each. The target is a big one and the conditions make it look even bigger. Can Oman do the unthinkable and defeat the Aussies by chasing down this daunting total? We shall find out soon with the chase in a while.

After being put in to bat first, Australia started well with Travis Head looking to be the aggressor. The ball wasn't coming nicely onto the bat and Travis Head departed in the third over with the score at 19. Skipper Mitchell Marsh and David Warner did try to take the game deep with some sensible strokeplay but a double strike from Mehran Khan in the 9th over came as a handy blow to the Aussies. David Warner along with Marcus Stoinis knitted a much-needed and timely partnership of 102 runs in just 64 deliveries for the 4th wicket and helped the side post a good total on board. Marcus Stoinis in particular was brilliant with the bat as he took on the bowlers and hit 6 maximums scoring and scored 67 of just 36 deliveries. Marcus Stoinis took down Mehran Khan for 4 maximums in an over and that changed the momentum completely in the favor of Aussies. David Warner too played a good hand of 56 runs. Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh struggled to get going while Glenn Maxwell departed for a golden duck. Tim David got away a couple of handy boundaries to close the innings well.

A brilliant knock by Marcus Stoinis and a key partnership along with David Warner helps the mighty Aussies post 164 runs on board.

OUT! RUN OUT! They had to go on the final ball but there was never a second run there. Bilal Khan bowls it full and at the stumps, gets it in the blockhole. Tim David hangs deep and digs it down to long on for one but Marcus Stoinis is quick to turn for the second. David turns but a tad slow and Ayaan Khan at long on picks the right end to throw as he fires it in at the keeper's end. Pratik Athavale has ample time to whip off the bails and just 8 runs come off the final over. Australia do manage to finish with a solid score of 164/5 on the board!

19.54

FOUR! Nicely done! A bit slower and into the pitch around leg stump, Tim David waits on it and angles it well and gets stellar timing on it to get it behind deep square leg for a boundary.

19.40

Top delivery! Full and just wide of the off stump, gets it right in the blockhole at a brisk pace as well, Tim David can't get any bat on it. A decent final over so far from Bilal Khan.

19.31

Full and quick, aimed in at the toes, Marcus Stoinis clears the front leg and flicks it aerially and on the bounce to deep mid-wicket for a run.

19.22

High in the air and DROPPED! Takes pace off again and bowls it on a nagging length around middle and leg, Marcus Stoinis lofts it without any timing and just over mid off, Kashyap Prajapati comes charging in from the deep and almost overrusn it and fails to keep his balance as the ball pops out. A couple of runs are taken.

19.10

Slower delivery, floated up full and around off stump, Marcus Stoinis drives it down to long on and denies the single.

Bilal Khan will bowl the final over.

FOUR! Well waited and put away to the fence. Slower one, dragged down and angled just down leg, Tim David gets inside the line and swats it away wide of short fine leg for a boundary. A wicket in the over but 17 runs off it as well.

18.5W

OUT! TAKEN! Finally, Oman break the stand but the damage has been done. Kaleemullah steams in from over the stumps and bowls a heavy short ball, dug in quite short and around off stump. David Warner gets rushed as he looks to thrash it away on the off side and gets it high on the bat. The ball flies down to wide long off where Shoaib Khan gets across and reverse-cups it nicely. End of a gritty knock from Warner.

18.42

Bowled short of a length and over leg stump, David Warner pulls it away in front of square on the leg side and picks up a couple of runs in the deep.

18.31

Slower delivery, bowled full and angled in at the toes, Marcus Stoinis manages to play it away uppishly through mid off for a single. The 100-run stand is also up between these two.

18.26

SIX! Up, up and away! Goes full and bowls it on the off stump, Marcus Stoinis stays deep in the crease, covers the line and just lifts it dead straight for another biggie. That brings up 1000 T20I runs for Stoinis as well.

18.14

FOUR! Edged away! Full and wide outside off, too wide and Marcus Stoinis throws his hands at it. The ball flies off the outside edge and goes over short third for a boundary.

Nagging length and pushed wide of the off stump, David Warner brinsg out the slog-sweep but fails to make a connection.

17.51

Risky single and a direct hit would have got Marcus Stoinis there. A yorker now, fired in on off stump, Stoinis backs away and squeezes it on the bounce to Zeeshan Maqsood at backward point before setting off for the run. Zeeshan gets a perfect bounce but fails to hit the stumps at the bowler's end.

17.41

Another quicker one, speared into the stumps, David Warner drills the ball down towards long on and picks up a single.

17.30

That shot has not worked out tonight for David Warner. Full and quick outside off stump, Warner attempts the reverse sweep but is well beaten.

17.26

SIX! FIFTY up for David Warner now too as he gets his first maximum of the night. Looking to bowl it quick and wide of the off stump, Warner skips down the track, gets beaten in flight a bit but manages to reach for it and lift it over wide long on for a maximum.

16.67nb

NO BALL AND SIX! FIFTY for up for 'THE HULK,' Marcus Stoinis and these are ominous signs for Oman. A poor delivery really from Bilal Khan as he bowls a high full toss outside the off stump. Stoinis stays put and just goes across the off stump before whacking the ball over deep mid-wicket for a biggie. Free Hit coming up as well. And would you believe it? The ball has smashed into one of the solar panels in the stands and has broken it as well it seems. New ball, please!

16.51

Keeps taking pace off but digs it in this time, David Warner comes forward and lifts it over mid on for a single.

16.51wd

WIDE! Another slower one, trying to go full and at the legs but spills it a fair bit down leg for a wide.

16.40

Nicely bowled and good work behind the stumps from Pratik Athavale as well. Another slower one, bowled on a length around middle and angling back in. David Warner goes across to reverse-scoop but misses and the ball just goes past the leg stump, rolling away. Athavale dives across and saves some extra runs.

Done and dusted with the pre-match proceedings and it is now time to get the play underway. The two umpires are already out in the middle and the players of Oman can be seen in a huddle. It will be the southpaw duo of David Warner and Travis Head to open the innings for Australia. Bilal Khan has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Ley't play...

We are ready for the pre-match formalities as both teams now walk out for their respective national anthems. It will be the national anthem of Oman first followed by the Australian national anthem.

PITCHSIDE - Mel Jones and Matthew Hayden are pitchside and they say that the surface looks dry and the spinners will love bowling here. Adds that there is going to be turn on offer and there will also be a lot of up and down movement. This is going to be a tough wicket for the keepers. Mentions that 150-160 looks a par total on this surface.

The skipper of Australia, Mitchell Marsh says they were looking to bowl first as well. Adds that it is great to get this experienced group of players back together. Mentions that he will be looking to bowl as well this time and try to be a complete all-rounder. Informs says that Cameron Green, Ashton Agar, Josh Inglis and Pat Cummins are not playing this game.

The skipper of Oman, Aqib Ilyas informs they will be batting second. Says that the wicket here is similar as it was in their first game. Mentions that the bowlers did well for them and are confient that they will be able to restric the Aussies to a low total. Mentions that they have a couple of changes as Pratik Athavale replaces Naseem Khushi and Shoaib Khan is in as well.

Oman (Playing XI) - Kashyap Prajapati, Pratik Athavale (WK) (replaces Naseem Khushi), Aqib Ilyas (C), Zeeshan Maqsood, Khalid Kail, Ayaan Khan, Shoaib Khan (replaces Mohammad Nadeem), Mehran Khan, Shakeel Ahmed, Kaleemullah, Bilal Khan.

Australia (Playing XI) - David Warner, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh (C), Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade (WK), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.

TOSS - The coin flip has landed in favor of Oman and they have decided to BOWL first.

Oman on the other hand have already played a game where they lost to another Associate nation in Namibia. The game went down to the super over but the team in red fell short on that occasion. Oman will be looking to better their performance against Namibia but facing Australia is a different game altogether. The side needs to play out of their skins to make a game out of it let alone win it. With almost negligible chances of winning this on paper, the side might look to play a carefree brand of cricket and that may prove fruitful for them. In this David versus Goliath game let's see what comes as the end result. Toss and team updates to follow...

The mighty Aussies will start their campaign against the minnows Oman. Australia will be led by Mitchell Marsh in this tournament. The side has a perfect blend of experienced players and those who are explosive in nature. The team is full of match-winners and no team knows how to win an ICC event better than the mighty Aussies. The side will rely on the services of David Warner, Travis Head and skipper Mitchell Marsh with the bat at the top while all-rounders like Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green and Marcus Stoinis will play a vital role in maintaining the team's balance. The bowling department will be relying on the much more than capable shoulders of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc. The Aussies look ever so dangerous yet again and they would be eyeing a perfect start to yet another ICC major.

Hello and welcome to all our viewers. Australia takes on Oman in game no. 10 of the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.

... MATCHDAY ...

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is in full swing, and with twenty teams competing, it's been quite the event. Match number 10 is shaping up to be an exciting showdown between Australia and Oman from Pool B. The Kensington Oval in Barbados is all set to host its first game of the tournament. Australia is aiming for another trophy and is coming off a strong performance in their warm-up game against the Windies. Despite losing, they put up a fierce fight chasing a massive total of 258. Mitchell Marsh will lead the team, with David Warner and Travis Head forming what could be the most destructive opening pair in the competition. With Marsh and Josh Inglis solidifying the middle order, Australia’s batting line-up looks particularly threatening. Adding to their firepower are Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell, two explosive all-rounders who can dominate with both bat and ball. This combination makes Australia a formidable force in the competition. Tim David is also in the mix, ready to deliver crucial clutch knocks towards the backend of the innings and significantly inflate the scoring rate exponentially. Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and the in-form Mitchell Starc are the marquee pacers with Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar as the two frontline spinners. On the other hand, Oman is coming off a thrilling warm-up game against Namibia that went into a super over despite the game being a low scoring affair, though they eventually ended up on the losing side. Despite the loss, the game showcased Oman's fighting spirit. Oman enters the competition with a competitive batting line-up featuring Zeeshan Maqsood, Khalid Kail, and Naseem Khushi. Their all-rounder options include skipper Aqib Ilyas, who not only bats in the top order but also contributes crucial overs as a spinner Along with Ayaan Khan and Shakeel Ahmed as additional spin options, Oman has a well-rounded bowling attack. Their frontline pacers include Mehran Khan, Bilal Khan, and Kaleemullah, providing a solid mix of pace and spin to challenge their opponents. Although Australia are the unarguable heavyweights in this competition, Oman wont back off to give a stern challenge to the Aussies. Will Australia do the inevitable or will Oman have a surprise to unfold? Who do you think will win this clash?
