Commentary

Right then, we are now in a deadlock and the series decider will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth and it should be a cracking game. Pakistan have the confidence and with Australia resting a lot of the experienced players for that final game, the visitors would be eyeing up a huge away ODI series win. However, it is the perfect platform for some of the fringe players of Australia to step up and make their name. Do join us on Sunday, 10 November at 3.30 am GMT for the action. You can also tune in to our build-up a lot sooner. Cheers!

Mohammad Rizwan, the skipper of Pakistan says a win is a win and he hopes they can continue to do well. Credits the bowlers for the way they bowled and adds they stuck to a plan, especially Haris Rauf.

Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia says they weren’t at their best, in fact, it was one of the worst days. States they needed more runs with the bat. Credits the way Pakistan bowled and adds they used the conditions well. Ends by saying Josh Inglis has a little bit of captaincy experience and he’ll do fine.

Haris Rauf is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH! Rauf says he’s very happy and his side too. Mentions the support was excellent and they are trying to make them happy. States he’s played a lot for the Melbourne Stars in the Australian Big Bash League and he’s familiar with the conditions.

The Presentation ceremony...

Saim Ayub is down for a quick chat. Starts off by mentioning the most important is that the team won. We planned to be positive and not think too far ahead for results and also tried to stay calm right throughout the innings. Furthermore adds about facing the likes of Starc, Cummins and Hazelwood he says it's about watching the ball and not the bowler. This means not getting too carried away with the bowler's stature and rather playing his way. Adds that victory always gives you confidence going forward and all the players in the team including himself are committed to the team's core values and everyone is enjoying each other's company inside the team. Talking about the bowling unit he adds that they have been bowling magnificently and especially mentions Harris Rauf and how all the bowlers surround him and back him from the other ends, he concluded.

Earlier in the game, Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and opted to bowl first on a deck that just had some moisture early on but looked great for batting. The Pakistani pacers went for a few boundaries early on but did manage to get rid of the opening pair early as well. Then came the burst from Haris Rauf in the middle phase and he completely uprooted that Aussie middle order. Steven Smith looked the only one likely to take Australia to a defendable total but he too fell. In reply, the Pakistani opening pair of Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub did a fine job of hitting the pacers off their lengths as the visitors cruised to victory.

Not much to write about in terms of the bowling for Australia and they were up against it right from the start. The surface was certainly a lot better than 163 runs and once they failed to get early wickets, they had to resign to the fact that there wasn't much in the deck. Adam Zampa did drop a catch but did also get a wicket, the only one of the chase as the pacers went home empty-handed and they will now look to bounce back in the series decider.

While chasing a low target, you do need to get off to a positive start to just get those jitters out of the way and that's what the Pakistani openers managed to do. They were watchful for the first few overs but after a few overs, Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique both started to attack. Ayub was the aggressor and went after the bowlers, breaking the back of the chase in the process. Ayub hit 6 biggies on his way to a fine knock of 82 off just 71 balls. Shafique on the other hand remained resolute and played his strokes as well and finished unbeaten on a lovely 64 off 69 balls.

A comprehensive win then for Pakistan and they have roared back to level up the series and the 3rd and final game will now be a series decider. This was a fine showing from start to finish and even after Australia got away to a quick start with the bat, Pakistan were able to control the game.

26.36

SIX! Finally, it's done and Babar Azam finishes things off in style, with the 10th maximum of the chase. This is dropped short on middle, Babar rocks back and flat-bats it over the mid-wicket fence for a biggie. Pakistan WIN BY 9 WICKETS!

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The umpires are back out in the middle and so are the players of Australia. It will be Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique to open the innings for Pakistan. Mitchell Starc will get proceedings underway with the ball. Let's go...

... The Run Chase ...

Heading into the second innings, Australia must bowl with precision to counter Pakistan’s capable batting lineup. Adelaide Oval’s pitch has offered some assistance to both pace and spin, which Australia’s experienced bowlers will look to capitalize on and take early wickets. 164 is a modest target and Pakistan should level up the series but will need to be positive with the bat. Let's see how the run chase pans out. Join us in a bit to find out.

Pakistan's bowling attack was spearheaded by Haris Rauf, who had an outstanding performance, taking 5 wickets for just 29 runs in his 8 overs. Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Hasnain also made important contributions, claiming 3 and 1 wicket individually. Naseem Shah also chipped in with 1 wicket but was on the expensive side, finishing with 1/65 in his quota of 10 overs. The collective effort from Pakistan's bowlers was crucial in stifling Australia's scoring rate and reducing them to a low total.

Pakistan's bowlers dominated, keeping Australia under pressure throughout. As for Australia's batting, the most significant contributions came from Steven Smith, who top-scored with 35 runs off 48 balls. Josh Inglis and Matthew Short added 18 runs, and 19 runs respectively but their stays at the crease were brief. Glenn Maxwell (16 off 21) and Aaron Hardie (14 off 29) tried to fight back, but both were dismissed cheaply, leaving captain Pat Cummins a lot to do. Adam Zampa did play a handy knock to get them over the 150-run mark. The middle and lower order failed to get going, leading to Australia's downfall. The team never seemed to settle, with Pakistan's bowlers consistently finding the right lengths and keeping Australia under control.

Outstanding from Pakistan! Their bowlers have done half their job and they are in pole position to level the series. Australia have been outplayed here in the first innings and have been bowled out with a fair chunk of overs to go. They found themselves in a difficult position after being put into bat. They were bowled out for 163 just in 35 overs, largely due to disciplined bowling from Pakistan. Australia began solidly but were unable to build any substantial partnerships, falling victim to regular wickets.

OUT! DRAGGED ON! That's it, its all over and Shaheen Afridi ends with three wickets. Continues from around the stumps to the right-hander and bowls it a touch full outside the off stump line. Adam Zampa goes deep in the crease and backs away before looking to smash it away on the off side. Zampa has to reach for it and gets a big inside edge and the ball crashes into the stumps. Zampa departs after a handy knock of 18 off 21 and Australia are bundled out for just 163 runs.

34.50

Short of a length and over the stumps, Adam Zampa picks up the length but pulls it straight to mid-wicket.

34.41

Slight hesitation in the middle and they eventually settle for the single. Back of a length and outside off, Josh Hazlewood punches it away past the diving man at point and picks up a single. They look for two but decide against it.

Zampa looks to hook but is beaten by pace and bounce. Half a shout for caught behind and Zampa urges Rizwan to take the review. However, there is nothing on UltraEdge there.

33.34

FOUR! A teaser that for Shaheen Afridi in the deep but Adam Zampa has played it well enough. Another short ball, banged in over middle, Zampa gets in position and flat-bats the pull wide of deep backward square leg. Shaheen covers some good ground and even gets a fingertip on it but the ball goes to the fence and the 150 is up for Australia.

33.21

33.11

Drinks break! Well then, any chance of this being a close encounter has been blown away by this opening stand and Saim Ayub has really played a superb knock. Both batters have negotiated the pacers well and haven't let the bad deliveries go to waste. Ayub is playing a lot freely now and going after everything but Pakistan are in such a position that he can afford to do that. Australia need a whole heap of wickets and they need them at the earliest but this one does look a bridge too far.

Valiant effort from Shaheen Afridi and he has saved a run for his side. Just back of a length and around off, Pat Cummins backs away and slaps it straight back down the ground. Afridi gives it a chase from inside the ring and dives in to keep the ball in play. The batters pick up three runs.

30.11lb

A big swing and a miss from Adam Zampa and he almost gets cleaned up. On a good length around middle, darting back in, Zampa backs away and heaves across the line but the ball smashes into the back pad and rolls towards backward point. They get a leg bye as the appeal for LBW is turned down.

Drinks break! Well then, the game looked much more evenly poised 15 overs earlier than now and Pakistan have gained complete control of this first innings. Haris Rauf has been sensational in this middle phase and has run through the Aussie middle order. Pat Cummins once again has to do the repair job for his side but from here, it will be a miracle if he manages to take his side to anywhere near the 200-run mark.

Jake looks to play with a straight bat and drive down the ground but plays all over it and gets pinged on the pads. There is a loud appeal and the finger is raised. Jake has a word with Short about whether that pitched outside leg but starts walking back after a bright start, such a shame.

We are all set for the 2nd ODI to get underway! The umpires are making their way out to the middle followed by the opening pair of Australia - Matthew Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk. The players of Pakistan have taken their places on the field as well. Shaheen Afridi has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. A couple of slips in place, let's play...

Pakistan (Unchanged XI) - Abdullah Shafique, Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan (C/WK), Kamran Ghulam, Salman Agha, Irfan Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain.

Australia (Playing XI) - Matthew Short, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Steven Smith, Josh Inglis (WK), Marnus Labuschagne, Aaron Hardie, Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins (C), Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood (In for Sean Abbott).

TOSS - The flip of the coin lands in favor of Pakistan and they will BOWL first.

Right then, the stage is set for yet another fascinating encounter but will it be another low-scoring affair? Or will the batters manage to get the better of the bowlers this time around and we will some big runs on the board? Only time will tell. Stick around as the toss and team news isn't far away.

Pakistan almost managed a staggering comeback in the first ODI and the pacers really rose to the occasion but they just didn't have enough runs on the board and that batting line-up really needs to fire if they are to level the series here in Adelaide.

The Aussies managed to kick off the home season with a narrow win in the first game after seemingly cruising along in the first half of the chase. Skipper, Pat Cummins had to pull off a gutsy inning to see his side through and he will be hoping for a much more clinical showing with the bat this time around.

Hello and a warm welcome to one and all. It is time for the 2nd ODI between Australia and Pakistan to get underway in Adelaide and with the series on the line, it is a must win game for the visitors whereas the hosts will look to wrap things up before a few of their big guns are rested for the final ODI.

... MATCH DAY ...

After edging Pakistan in a thrilling low-scoring contest, Australia targets a series-clinching win in the second ODI. Pakistan, determined to stay alive in the series, seeks an upset victory over the World Champions at Adelaide Oval. Both sides would be looking to put up a better batting display as runs were hard to come by in the series opener, with neither Australia nor Pakistan producing a single half-centurion in the first ODI. Australia, buoyed by the match-winning performance from skipper Pat Cummins, will look to consolidate their lead. Despite restricting the opposition to a low score, Australia's batting unit struggled to seal the deal, relying on the clutch inning from skipper Pat Cummins. Matthew Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk will look to rectify this with a solid start, aided by the top-notch firepower of Steven Smith, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne and Glenn Maxwell down the order. Australia may also consider introducing youngster Cooper Connolly, whose all-round abilities and left-arm spin could complement Zampa's leg-spin against Pakistan's predominantly right-handed batting lineup. In the series opener, Pakistan showed heart but failed to defend a subpar total against the World Champions. The Asian side, led by Mohammad Rizwan, seeks a batting resurgence in the second ODI, counting on Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub to deliver match-winning performances. The Asian side may also inject freshness in their line-up with the addition of Arafat Minhas, Aamer Jamal, or even Faisal Akram, giving them abundant all-round options. Will Pakistan bounce back to level the series, or will Australia get an unassailable lead in this 3-match ODI series? We will get our answer soon. We can expect another thrilling contest in the second ODI.
