A spirited effort from the Bangladesh lower order saw them avoid an innings defeat but they are still behind in the game. The lead is just 81 and it’s still some runs away from being a competitive score. Mehidy Hasan is still out there and Nayeem Hasan has played well along with him so far. The former will be eying a ton and the job of the latter is to continue to hang around. They’ll seriously hope they can take their lead past the 150-run mark and then challenge the Proteas in the fourth innings. South Africa, on the other hand, will hope they can make quick work of the lower order as anything above 150 could be a tricky chase. They will have the option to take the second new ball from the start, and with Kagiso Rabada in fine form, he could wrap things up sooner rather than later. Day 4 could either end quickly or it could turn out to be very interesting. The first session can indicate a lot. Stay tuned.

The bowlers dominating on the first day and then the batters from both sides showing good determination and resilience in the next two days to make things a lot interesting. As we head into Day 4 which could probably be the final day, South Africa will feel that they still hold the cards, but Bangladesh might have other ideas just as they showed on Day 3.

... DAY 4, SESSION 1 ...

Right then, that is it from a shortened Day 3 of this Test. Bangladesh have shown great determination and are leading by 81 runs which no one would have expected given their showing with the bat in the first innings. They will want to add as much as possible and set up a big target while South Africa will look to wrap things up in the morning session itself. Day 4 promises to be another eventful one and there is a huge chance that we will get a result. As we lost a lot of overs and time again, it will begin early at 3.45 am GMT, but you can join us early for all the build-up. Cheers!

South Africa, on the other hand, will be really disappointed with their performance. Kagiso Rabada set the tone with a couple of wickets early on while Keshav Maharaj also picked up one. At that point, Bangladesh were still trailing by just under 100 runs and with only 4 wickets in hand. However, after that early burst, the visitors failed to build on that and allowed the hosts to not only get back in the game but also put pressure back on South Africa. They finally got the breakthrough which was provided by Keshav Maharaj who was the only spinner who looked threatening as Dane Piedt was pretty expensive. Now, with the second new ball available, they will surely be looking to take that at the start of Day 4, and get these three wickets quickly as chasing something over 150 on this wicket will not be easy at all.

Bangladesh were rocked early when they lost both the overnight batters, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mushfiqur Rahim in the same over and were starring at the barrel of an innings defeat. However, Mehidy Hasan and Jaker Ali had other ideas and started the fight back. Initially, they looked to survive and ride the storm, but once they started to play their shots, there was no stopping them. They dominated proceedings and not only chipped away into the lead but helped them go past it with the biggest partnership of the match. Ali notched up his fifty on debut, but could not stick around for long after that. Mehidy and Nayeem Hasan then got together and frustrated South Africa making sure they did not lose any more wickets, and were also helped by bad light and rain that did not allow the Proteas to attack them with the second new ball.

Bad news folks! With the lights showing no signs of improving, the umpires have decided to call STUMPS ON DAY 3. It was really a stop-start kind of a day, but a good one for Bangladesh as they have put themselves in a position from where they can even think of winning this Test. South Africa, after making early inroads would have thought that they could finish the game early, but some inconsistent bowling along with an incredible fight with the bat from the hosts have kept this match alive.

UPDATE - 9.57 am GMT - The umpires did go out to take a reading a short while ago, but they went off the field pretty quickly as well. Perhaps, it is still not better than the benchmark that was set on Day 1. Things are looking gloomy here and with every passing minute, the hopes of getting a resumption are getting slimmer and slimmer.

UPDATE - 9.38 am GMT - Nothing really to update about. The light still has not improved and the waiting game continues. The official word was that we could play till 11.45 am GMT, but looking at the first two days, it does not look like light will hold up till then. Stay tuned for further updates.

Aiden Markram needs to make a decision whether to stay on and bowl only spin or take the second new ball and bring Kagiso Rabada into the attack. He is having that discussion with the umpires who still deem it is not safe for a pacer to bowl. Mehidy Hasan and Bangladesh look reluctant to go, but as Markram requests he wants to bowl a pacer, the umpires cannot do anything except STOP PLAY DUE TO BAD LIGHT. This is not the end of Day 3, and we hope that the light gets better so that we can at least get some more action.

WE HAVE A START TIME! PLAY WILL RESUME AT 9 AM GMT! The umpires had a little inspection, and they are happy with the outfield. Credit to the ground staff for preparing it pretty quickly as well.

UPDATE - 8.40 am GMT - Some positive news! The covers are being taken off now as the rain has stopped fully. The Super Soppers are also working to dry the outfield and the ground staff are working hard to get it ready as soon as possible. The only thing is that the blue skies have faded and it is pretty dark out there. The floodlights are on and whenever we get back out on the field, light could be a factor. Fingers crossed!

SESSION SUMMARY - 66 runs and 1 wicket in 17 overs! We only managed to get around an hour of play in this session, but it was pretty eventful. Firstly, Bangladesh went ahead for the first time in this game and made sure that South Africa had to bat in the fourth inning. The duo of Mehidy Hasan and Jaker Ali picked up from where they left in the first session, with the latter nothing up a maiden Test fifty on debut. However, after a lot of grinding, Keshav Maharaj finally broke the 138-run stand which was the highest of this game, giving the Proteas some hope. Maharaj looked threatening and almost got Nayeem Hasan as well only to be outdone by a review. Mehidy holds the key for them batting on 77 off 155. With a lead of 65 runs and only 3 wickets in hand, the hosts still have a lot of work to do, but the way they have fought back in this game, we cannot rule them out yet.

Bangladesh showed improvement, but they still have a mountain to climb to get back into this game. Their bowlers were inconsistent, conceding nearly 200 runs for the last four wickets, something that might prove costly. Hasan Mahmud was impressive, leaving them to wonder if playing just one seamer was the right call. While their spinners have had assistance from the pitch, the South African pacers showed there's something in it for them too. Bangladesh were in early trouble, losing two quick wickets, but Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Najmul Hossain Shanto steadied the ship before the captain's dismissal. Now, much rests on the set opener and Mushfiqur Rahim, who's adopted an aggressive approach. They'll look to close the lead quickly, but it won’t be easy. After battling tough conditions on Day 1, South Africa shifted gears on Day 2, opting to score runs instead of merely surviving. Kyle Verreynne stole the show with a brilliant century, and his 119-run partnership with Wiaan Mulder, who also registered his maiden Test fifty, proved vital. Dane Piedt’s handy contribution further pushed the lead past 200. Kagiso Rabada then rattled Bangladesh early with two quick wickets, but the Proteas struggled to maintain pressure, allowing the hosts to regain some footing. Keshav Maharaj eventually provided the breakthrough, but a few dropped chances and fading light brought an early end to Day 2.

Hello and a warm welcome, everyone! It’s 'Moving Day' in this first Test between South Africa and Bangladesh, and it might just turn out to be the final day of the contest. The Proteas are firmly in control, but they can't afford to underestimate the hosts, who showed real grit on Day 2 to keep themselves in the game.

... DAY 3, SESSION 1 ...

Right then, that is it from an entertaining Day 2 of this Test. Now, we move into the 'Moving Day' where to be honest with how things are going, we may even see a result. South Africa will be looking to make early inroads while Bangladesh needs to bat sensibly and bat long to fully make a comeback in this match. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will be relieved of how things panned out on Day 2. It took them almost two sessions to pick the last four wickets and that was a big factor that they conceded the big lead. Hasan Mahmud was excellent with the ball and provided the big breakthrough while Mehidy Hasan wrapped things up with a couple. While batting, Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque failed to make any impact but skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mahmudul Hasan Joy steadied things nicely. After the dismissal of Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim came in and played his shots showing attacking intent which is probably the best way to play on this pitch, and along with Joy chipped away into the lead. They still trail by 101 runs, and have a lot of work to do, but will take a lot of confidence from their performance here into the 'Moving Day'.

South Africa are still ahead in this game, but Bangladesh have fought back nicely to keep themselves in the picture. After seeing what happened on Day 1, everyone would thought that it would be even more difficult batting on this wicket. However, the wicket has settled down a bit, and despite the spinners getting some help, a few batters from both sides showed that if you spend time on it, you will score runs. Earlier it was Kyle Verreynne's fantastic century that helped South Africa take a lead of 202 runs, and then they started with a bang with the ball as well. Kagiso Rabada picked up a couple of early wickets, but after that, they struggled a bit and it was Keshav Maharaj in the final session who got the breakthrough getting rid of the opposition skipper. The Proteas did miss out on a couple of opportunities towards the end and will want to improve on that when they take the field again.

The two umpires bring out the light meter and check for the fading light with the reading they had taken on Day 1! Oh dear, they deem it unfit and ask the players to walk off! Well, it does not take them long to confirm that IT WILL BE STUMPS ON DAY 2. Once again, we have lost overs and more than what we did on the first day. However, this game has moved at a very fast pace, and with three days remaining both teams are very much in it to win it.

MISSED STUMPING! A rush of blood almost costs Mahmudul Hasan Joy his wicket here. This is tossed up, full and on middle, Joy skips down the track for a wild slog across the line but misses it completely. The ball hits a rough and bounces a bit more as the keeper, Kyle Verreynne has to collect it near his chest height and by the time he breaks the stumps, Joy dives back to get his bat inside. It is sent upstairs to check to be absolutely sure. The third umpire sees a lot of replays, and there is a moment when the bat is in the air and the lights go off on the bails. But before the bat went up in the air, Mahmudul Hasan Joy managed to get some part of it behind the crease which saved him. A really close call but he survives!

A loss of patience and Mahmudul Hasan Joy and misses his heave, with the ball bouncing awkwardly to the keeper who fails to collect it cleanly in his mitts but manages to knock the bails off. Coming into bat, Bangladesh needed a solid start but it was far from that. After a couple of quiet overs, Kagiso Rabada came in and struck twice in one over to put the hosts in a spot of bother.  Earlier in the session, the Bangladeshi bowlers found it tough to take the last couple of wickets and ended up conceding a lot of runs that could prove to be defining in this game. However, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Najmul Hossain Shanto made sure that they rode the storm and remained unfazed till the end of the session. The hosts are still trailing by 183 runs and they need a few partnerships to get back in the game, while South Africa will be hoping to pick more wickets in the final session and get closer to victory. SESSION SUMMARY - 84 runs and 4 wickets in 24.4 overs! Another session dominated by South Africa! With only two wickets in hand, they managed to make it really hard for the hosts and kept on piling on the runs. Kyle Verreynne and Dane Piedt added over 50 runs for the 9th wicket, and with the former's fantastic ton, the Proteas managed to extend their lead by over 200 runs.
