Commentary

India continue to keep ticking the boxes. Only one team remains unbeaten now and that is India. That is it from that game. Pakistan will take on Afghanistan on the 23rd of this month at 2 pm IST (8.30 am GMT) and join us early for the build up. Cheers!

Rohit Sharma says it is a good start to the tournament but the job is half done. Adds they are not thinking too far away but still enjoy the moment. Mentions Mohammed Shami took the opportunity with both hands, he has experienced and made the most of it. Tells Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra were batting well but credit to his bowlers to pull things back in the end. Reckons he is enjoying his time with Gill, they compliment each other quite well. On Virat Kohli, there is nothing much to say, he has been doing it for so many years, he has a calm head and thankfully, Kohli and Jadeja did the job. Tells their fielding was not clinical but this thing happens and will build on it. Ends by thanking the crowd for the support.

Tom Latham says they played reasonably well but didn't capitalize in the end with the bat. With the ball, they failed to take wickets. Reckons they were 30-40 runs short. Tells Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell had a fantastic partnership to set up for the last 10, credit to the Indian bowlers though. Tells Rachin Ravindra is a very positive person. Shares Virat Kohli is proactive, he is incredible in the run chase and it is very hard to stop him. Mentions they will work on a few areas and come back stronger in the next game.

Mohammed Shami wins the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He says it was important to keep confidence high despite playing after a while. Adds he was enjoying the team's success from the sidelines and was always supportive. Reckons they bowled really well as a unit and is happy to be on top of the table now.

...Presentation next...

For the chase, India as usual started in an aggressive way with the skipper leading from the front. Both, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill fell in quick succession. Shreyas Iyer didn't make the most of the start but it was the stand of Kohli and Rahul that made the big difference. However, the eyes were on the master of the chase. King Kohli who once again stepped up for his team to chase the target against a really quality bowling attack. Virat Kohli calculated the chase well and took the game down the wire. He was batting on 95, almost ready to celebrate his ton but unfortunately got out. From the team's perspective, he did the job and credit to Jadeja for playing that silent assasinate role.

The way Indian bowlers pulled back in the last 10 overs have made a lot of difference to the score. New Zealand were looking for 300 at one stage, with Daryl Mitchell playing the anchor role, he didn't get much help from the other end. Credit to the bowlers though, India were tidy, keeping it tight throughout. Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowler with a five-fer. Their fielding was not so clinical but it was the bowlers who made a quick turnaround.

There remains only one unbeaten team in this year's World Cup and it is INDIA. They have beaten the most dominating side till now comprehensively. Also, India have taken revenge for their loss in the 2019 World Cup. India will be mighty pleased with this win.

Commentary

We are back for the second half! Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are the openers. Trent Boult has the new ball in hand. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

The target is a chasable one but the wicket is a little tough! If the dew comes in, it could get easier otherwise, there is some movement and the bounce is a little up and down. New Zealand will need early wickets and India will know they will have to play the new ball well. Join us for the chase in a bit.

The new-ball bowlers were brilliant for India. The likes of Bumrah, Siraj and Shami were excellent but in the middle overs, India were not upto the mark, with the ball and in the field. The spinners were not as effective and the fielding was also not at its best. However, the likes of Kuldeep Yadav came back strongly later on. Mohammed Shami was at his best on his return to the side. He ended with a five-fer. Bumrah yet again did an exceptional job in the end and Siraj and Jadeja supported them really well.

An outstanding comeback from India in the last 10 overs and they will surely be happier of the two sides heading into the break! This though has been an inning of fightbacks. First, it was India who began brilliantly as they got two early wickets. However, the Kiwis then fought back courtesy of Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra and the dropped catch of Rachin by Ravindra Jadeja also aided their cause. The pair added a massive stand before Rachin Ravindra fell. Once the left-hander fell, the others coming in just could not adapt to the pace of the surface. They found run-scoring really tough. Daryl Mitchell was also starved of the strike. He though stayed there till the last over to take his side to competitive total.

OUT! RUN OUT! Good work from Rahul! A yorker on the pads, Trent Boult swings but misses. They look to sneak a bye but KL Rahul hits the stumps at his end and Lockie Ferguson is run out. New Zealand HAVE BEEN BOWLED OUT FOR 273!

49.5W

OUT! TAKEN! Straight to the fielder! Daryl Mitchell falls. An outstanding knock from him. He is the major reason for his side getting to a competitive total. This is full and around leg. Daryl Mitchell looks to go over mid-wicket. He does not time it that well. It goes more off the toe-end. Virat Kohli at deep mid-wicket, runs to his left and takes it well.

49.40

Goes short and on middle, Daryl Mitchell pulls it hard but towards deep mid-wicket. No run taken again.

49.34

FOUR! Over covers. 10 from the last two balls. New Zealand nearing in on the 280. Full and outside off, this is lofted over cover for a boundary.

49.26

SIX! There it is, 270 is almost breached. He will be looking for a couple more of these in the next 4 balls. A full toss, a gift for Daryl Mitchell, he slams it over the long on fence.

47.4W

New Zealand on the other hand, have yet again been the surprise package. Yes, we probably say that about them in every World Cup but this time, without the services of Kane Williamson, they have been exceptional. Tom Latham has been brilliant with his captaincy and the senior players have stepped up. They too will wanting to make it another win but they face a stiff task ahead. Can they upset the odds? We will find out. Toss and teams in a bit.

The Indians have been dominant in this World Cup so far! They have beaten their oppositions quite easily. The key for them has been the form of Rohit, Kohli and Bumrah. The three have been at their best and the hosts seem an unstoppable force till now. They though are up against their least favourite opposition in recent times, New Zealand. They have struggled to beat them in recent times in the World Cups. That all can change here today. India are surely favourites heading into this game and will be looking to continue their winning streak.

Two of the best teams in the competition so far will be locking horns! Tournament favourites India will be taking on the Kiwis. Two teams that are still to lose a game. It is a clash between the table toppers. This promises to be an absolute cracker. Welcome to the coverage.

... MATCH DAY ...

What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? We are about to find out as India and New Zealand lock horns in match number 21 of the 2023 ODI World Cup at the picturesque Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. As things stand, two unbeaten teams, India and New Zealand, occupy the top two spots in the standings, but thanks to their superior net run rate, the Kiwis are placed above the hosts. India have so far gotten the better of Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and most recently, Bangladesh. However, they now face their biggest test of the World Cup against their nemesis of ICC events, New Zealand. In the last outing against Bangladesh, a fighting bowling display in the middle and death overs helped them restrict the opposition to 256. In reply, a century from Virat Kohli and contributions from the rest of the batters took India over the line with 7 wickets in hand and 8.3 overs to spare. The Men in Blue were given a huge injury scare when Hardik Pandya twisted his left ankle while trying to stop the ball in his follow through and walked off during the first inning. The star all-rounder has not travelled to Dharamsala for this game, but he is expected to return for the fixture against England in Lucknow. In his absence, the team balance does take a hit, which raises a selection conundrum for the Indian team management. Suryakumar Yadav looks the most likely to replace the all-rounder, but Ishan Kishan is also a good option with his ability to counter the left-arm spin of Mitchell Santner. In the pace department, Shardul Thakur has not been able to have the impact his golden arm is known for. With Dharamsala expected to assist pacers, India might opt for a three-pronged attack by bringing in Mohammed Shami for Shardul Thakur. Jasprit Bumrah has been sensational with the new ball as well as during the death overs, while Mohammed Siraj has not been that effective upfront, but he has managed to deliver the goods in the middle phase. With the bat, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have done the bulk of scoring, while KL Rahul has impressively gone about his work, batting at number 5. Returning from illness, Shubman Gill has shown no signs of rustiness and even notched up his maiden ODI World Cup fifty against Bangladesh. On the other hand, New Zealand came into this World Cup as a dark horse, and as always, they have punched above their weight. With four wins out of four, they are off to a dream start in their quest for their maiden ODI World Cup title. In their previous encounter against Afghanistan, impactful knocks from Will Young, Tom Latham, and Glenn Phillips powered them to a daunting total. A complete effort with the ball saw them skittle out Afghanistan for 139 to secure a massive victory by 149 runs. In Kane Williamson's absence, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra have shouldered the responsibility for New Zealand. Will Young has scored consecutive fifties, while Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips will be pleased to have got runs under their belt against Afghanistan. Trent Boult and Matt Henry have had the new ball on a string, while Lockie Ferguson, with his raw pace, has hurried batters with the old ball. Playing as the lone frontline spinner, Mitchell Santner has bowled with a lot of control and will hold the key against India, whose top five batters are all right-handers. It has been two decades since New Zealand last suffered a defeat against India in ICC tournaments. Will they extend their dominance? Or will India break the hoodoo in the foothills of the Himalayas? We will find out soon enough.
