South Africa have 6 points in the bag and have a foot in the door for the next round. Bangladesh will be really disappointed as they have let it slip off their palms. Now, with just two points for them, the group D gets more interesting. That is all from this match. The next match is from Group C as Pakistan will take on Canada at the same venue. That game will begin on Tuesday, the 11th of June at 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT). You can however join us early for the build-up. Till then, goodbye and cheers!

Aiden Markram, the captain of South Africa says that everyone was going to be pretty nervous in this sort of a final over finish and sometimes you get over the line and sometimes you don't but it makes for great entertainment. On his crucial catch, he says that it was a matter of a meter or two and reckons they got a bit lucky at times and on Maharaj bowling the final over, he says that it depends on the situation and the pacers had to bowl the earlier overs. Adds that the partnership between David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen and is happy to see them doing well at crucial times.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captin of Bangladesh says they were nervous but they were hopeful that Jaker Ali will help win the match but this things happen in cicket. Feels they should have won the match but tells South Africa bowled well in the last couple of overs. Mentions Rishad Hossain is very good, he works hard and is showing his skills, says they are lucky to have him.

Heinrich Klaasen is the Player of the Match for his gritty batting performance. Klaasen starts by saying that it feels good that the boys got over the line. Adds that the wicket isn't great for stroke-play but they had good information from David Miller about the wicket from the last game and managed to put on a decent total. Mentions he and Miller had a One-Day mindset and wanted to shift gears after the 15th over which unfortunately didn't happen. Ends by saying that they have got three games out of the way, winning all of them and will now look forward to the next stage.

...Presentation next...

South Africa have virutally registered their names in the Super Eight but by no means they have played their best cricket yet. They have had to be really clutch in all three matches. Today as well, they registered a very low total as the batters failed yet again. South Africa were 23/4 but then came the match-winning partnership between David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen. The duo added 79 runs but South Africa failed to get the required finish in the fag end of the innings. However, the bowlers stepped up, kept chipping in with wickets regularly and it was in the last couple of overs where they really showed the grit to get the two points. Keshav Maharaj, in particularly showed his experience in the final over.

Aiden Markram took a huge, huge gamble by batting first on a slow, soft pitch! He did talked about how difficult it is to chase down totals and how important are the last 10 overs in the game. The Proteas bowlers showed a lot of character to defend such a lot total. However, it was not easy going for them when Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah were batting. Bangladesh were reeling at 50/4 at one stage and were in similar position to South Africa however, Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah came to the rescue and put on a solid stand of 44 runs before Hridoy was dismissed. Bangladesh still had Mahmudullah out there and they bet on him to chase it down. Mahmudullah, in the back of his mind made the decision to target Keshav Maharaj in the final over but his plan got wasted as he hammered a low full toss in the hands of Markram. He fell and the onus was on Jaker Ali but he too failed to hit the winning runs.

The Streak remains intact! It's 9-0 to South Africa in T20s and Bangladesh have to wait a little longer to get better of the Proteas. We have witnessed yet another low-scoring thriller in this year's World Cup. South Africa have successful defended their lowest total. How were the nerves there by Keshav Maharaj? Bowling the final over with just over 10 runs to play with, he did get away with a few full tosses but Maharaj was just good enough to get things done for his team.

Is that a no ball for height? No, it is fine and SOUTH AFRICA HAVE DONE IT! Keshav Maharaj lets slip of another delivery and ends up serving a very high full toss that angles quickly across the left-hander. The trajectory made it difficult to put away and Taskin Ahmed ends up slicing it away over the cover region for a single. The height is just about fine and South Africa have won by 4 runs and remain unbeaten in Men's T20Is against Bangladesh!

SIX RUNS NEEDED IN ONE DELIVERY! Taskin Ahmed walks out. Can he be the hero for Bangladesh?

19.5W

OUT! CAUGHT! OH, WOW! That is some catch under pressure from the Proteas skipper but Mahmudullah will be livid with himself to have not got that one over the ropes. Keshav Maharaj serves a juciy full toss right on middle stump, Mahmudullah gets under it and lifts it high. The ball goes a mile up but doesn't quite have the legs on it. Markram moves to his left from long on and takes it inches inside the ropes on the run and over his shoulder as well. What a moment and that could be the knockout blow for Bangladesh.

19.41lb

NOT OUT! It will be just a leg bye and now 6 runs are needed off 2 balls. Keshav Maharaj spears the ball in full and around off stump. Rishad Hossain goes well across to the off side trying to slog it away but misses and gets struck on the pads. The ball rolls away behind point and they scamper for a leg bye. There was a huge appeal for LBW but it was turned down and South Africa did take the review. Nothing on UltraEdge and the impact is outside the line of off stump.

South Africa have taken an LBW appeal upstairs. No bat on it. Ball Tracking shows the impact is outside the line. Mahmudullah is on the strike now. Bangladesh one hit away.

Huge moment in the game. Rishad Hossain comes in and will be on the strike. 7 runs needed in 3 balls.

19.3W

OUT! CAUGHT! Keshav Maharaj with a body blow to Bangladesh and not only is it a wicket but the new man will be on strike as well with Mahmudullah stranded at the other end. Maharaj flights the ball up and drifts it onto middle and leg, Jaker Ali skips down the pitch and looks to lift it over long on but doesn't quite get to the pitch of the ball and finds the fielder in the deep. Aiden Markram pouches it safely.

19.22

Poor cricket all-round! Keshav Maharaj with a full toss on the stumps, begging to be hit, Jaker Ali goes too hard at it and toe-ends it straight down the ground. The batters push for two but it isn't quite on as the fielder from tidies up but the throw at the bowler's end is wide and they do get the second run.

19.11

Quite quick and a bit short around off, Mahmudullah backs away to cut but gets an inside edge past the stumps and past Quinton de Kock as well for a single at short fine leg.

19.11wd

WIDE! Oh, the pressure! Tries to fire it in but spills it down the leg side and even Quinton de Kock spills it but they won't get the additional single.

Bangladesh need 11 runs from 6 balls. Keshav Maharaj has one over left. It could be a gamble but Aiden Markram has no other options left. Maharaj is having a chat with Markram.

Jaker Ali mistimes another one but gets it in the gap and picks up a couple of crucial runs. Banged in a bit by Ottneil Baartman and at the batter, Ali gets rushed and just about manages to pull it away through mid-wicket for a brace. Baartman has done well here, just 7 off that over and Bangladesh now need 11 off the final over.

18.51

That should have been put away and Ottneil Baartman will feel he's got away with one there. A bit slower and floated up on the legs, Mahmudullah comes forward and flicks it away but straight on the bounce to short fine leg. Only a single then.

18.41

Full again and around off stump, Jaker Ali hangs deep in the crease and drags the attempted heave square through the leg side and gets just a single.

18.32

This time, they do get two runs! Fuller in length and angling it into the leg stump, Jaker Ali stays leg side of the ball and miscues the heave through the vacant mid-wicket region and races back for the second run.

18.21

Just the single, South Africa won't mind that at all. This is bowled short of a length and at the body, Mahmudullah drops it into the vacant space at mid-wicket and wants two but the bowler, Ottneil Baartman is quick to chase it down and keeps it down to a single.

18.10

Swing and a miss! Full and wide outside the off stump, Mahmudullah skips down the track and looks to loft it over covers but misses it completely.

Mahmudullah will keep the strike but just 2 runs come off that over for Bangladesh. Pitched up around middle and angling in, Mahmudullah drives it on the front foot but off the inner half of the bat and down to long on for one. 18 needed off the last 2 overs.

17.51

Risky single but they get it. Full and around off, a bit in the slot too, Jaker Ali can't get under it and smahses it just to the left of mid off before scampering across for one.

17.40

The dots just keep on coming and the pressure is immense on the new batter. KG goes full and straight, Jaker Ali pushes it out to mid on and they look for a single but won't get it.

17.30

Another precious dot ball! Back of a length and outside off stump, Jaker Ali plays it nicely off the back foot but hits it straight to the man at point again.

17.20

On the fuller side and pushed wider of the off stump, Jaker Ali reaches out and tries to squeeze it away but can't beat the man at point to his left.

Commentary

We are back for the run chase! The umpires are back out in the middle and so are the players of South Africa who huddle-up before taking their places on the field. It will be the duo of Tanzid Hasan and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto who will open the innings for Bangladesh. Marco Jansen will get proceedings underway with the ball. Let's play...

... The Run Chase ...

Overall, Bangladesh will be mighty pleased with that bowling display as their pacers rose to the occasion and did some serious damage to the opposition. Tanzim Hasan Sakib bowled three overs upfront and got a wicket each in those overs and Taskin Ahmed too picked up one wicket. Surprisingly, their frontline spinners were off colour and Shakib Al Hasan bowled just the one over with Rishad Hossain going for plenty of runs. It was Mahmudullah who showed the best control of spin bowling. However, Rishad came back brilliantly and bowled a brave 19th over to David Miller and even got him out. Bangladesh closed off the innings brilliantly and now the onus will be on the batters to get 114 runs. It won't be straightforward and South Africa will come hard at them. Join us soon as the exciting run chase is coming up next.

The star with the ball for Bangladesh, Tanzim Hasan Sakib is down for a chat. He says they stick to the basic and the talk was just to bowl in the right areas. Mentions Quinton de Kock's wicket was his favourite as he hit him for couple of biggies before that. Reckons Taskin Ahmed got the wicket of Heinrich Klaasen at the perfect time. Ends by appreciating the support from the crowd.

Opting to bat first on a used pitch, the intent was made clear as Quinton de Kock decided to smash anything in his zone but as in the past couple of games, the opening stand faltered and Reeza Hendricks fell for a golden duck. Then came the collapse and all of a sudden, the Proteas were 23/4 inside the Powerplay. It was then a crucial stand between Heinrich Klaasen and their match winner from last time, David Miller worth 79 runs that got them in a good position at the backend but they simply couldn't kick on. Neither Klaasen nor Miller could stay on till the end and they might have missed out on 15-20 runs in the end.

A back and forth sort of a contest but at the halfway mark, Bangladesh will feel they pulled things back brilliantly at the death and have given themselves a wonderful platform. South Africa on the other hand will feel that they have runs on the board and will back their pacers. But have they done enough to salvage what could have been a disaster of a batting performance? Only time will tell.

19.51

Keshav Maharaj finally connects but just for one. Mustafizur Rahman targets the off pole, this is full and it is tucked to square leg for a single.

19.51wd

Wide! Doing too much this time. Overcompensates and bowls it wide outside off, over the tramline. Wided.

MISSED AGAIN! This is top, top stuff from the Fizz!! Short of a length on off and angles it away. Keshav Maharaj looks to pull but misses. Bangladesh appeal but there was nothing much in it.

19.20

DOT AGAIN! Similar to the previous delivery! Bowls it full and well wide of off. Keshav Maharaj fails to get his bat on it again.

OUT! BOWLED! Could this be the decisive moment when the game ends? What a delivery! What a wicket! A leg-spinner against Miller and we would always bet on Miller to take him on but this World Cup keeps on surprising every one. Tossed up, full and on leg, it lands and it is the top spinner that goes right on. Miller looks to slog-sweep but completely misses and it crashes the stumps. A brave delivery to the left-hander but Rishad Hossain gets his man.

OUT! BOWLED! A perfect time to get the wicket of Heinrich Klaasen! Bangladesh on top here. Taskin Ahmed gets his length right here. He again removes the pace from this length delivery, this is on middle. Heinrich Klaasen pre-meditates and swings his bat across but he was no where close to the ball. It rolls through and hits the stumps.

17.22

Pulls out all the pace from this one, shorter and around off, Heinrich Klaasen helps it to square leg and gets a brace.

Full again and around off stump, Jaker Ali hangs deep in the crease and drags the attempted heave square through the leg side and gets just a single.

18.32

18.21

Just the single, South Africa won't mind that at all. This is bowled short of a length and at the body, Mahmudullah drops it into the vacant space at mid-wicket and wants two but the bowler, Ottneil Baartman is quick to chase it down and keeps it down to a single.

OUT! LBW! Another appeal, not sure you can even call that an appeal but the finger goes up. Towhid Hridoy does review it right away though. Kagiso Rabada comes in from over the stumps and pitches it short of a good length around middle and angles it in. Hridoy misses the clip off the legs and the ball goes of the pads to mid-wicket as the batters scamper through. Nothing on UltraEdge but Ball Tracking shows that it would have clipped the leg stump and it stays OUT on Umpire's call. What a big breakthrough this from Rabaa and Hridoy is absolutely distraught.

David Miller looks to play it off the front foot but gets a thick outside edge and goes straight into the left leg as Litton Das is pretty late with the glovework. Could be a huge opportunity missed here for Bangladesh.

Drinks break! Pheww, an engrossing first 10 overs and rightly so, everyone need a bit of a breather here. Quinton de Kock came out all guns blazing for South Africa but so did Tanzim Hasan Sakib as he dismantled the Proteas top order and along with the help of Taskin Ahmed had them reeling at 23 for 4. Since then, bithday boy, David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen have just regained a bit of control for South Africa but they need a lot more from this duo. We are all set for action. First, we will have the national anthems. It will be of Bangladesh's first followed by of South Africa. Done with the formalities, we are all in readiness for the action now. Najmul Hossain Shanto is giving a last minute pep-talk to his team. Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks stride out to open for the Proteas. Tanzim Hasan Sakib to bowl first. A slip in place. Let's go...

Bangladesh skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto says that they would have bowled first anyway, so, they are happy. Informs that Jaker Ali has come in for Soumya Sarkar. Adds that wherever they play, the support is immense and they are happy with it. Mentions that he is happy with the boys after the previous win and believes they will do good here as well. Adds that they finally have a leg-spinner who has been consistent and hopes that they play some good cricket today.

Aiden Markram, the captain of South Africa says they will bat first as it is a used wicket. Feels the pitch could get slower as the game progresses and that could help their pacers. Reckons they back themselves to put on a good total. The trend is shifting to bat first and hopefully they do the job. Shares the batters need to find some forms, including himself, they just need a couple of good knocks to get back in form.

Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Litton Das (WK), Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Towhid Hridoy, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Jaker Ali (In for Soumya Sarkar), Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mustafizur Rahman.

South Africa (Playing XI) - Quinton de Kock (WK), Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram (C), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Ottneil Baartman.

TOSS - The flip of the coin lands in favour of South Africa. They have decided to BAT first.

PITCH REPORT - It is the third game we are playing on the same surface, once again it won't be easy for the batters. The back of the length delivery and hard-length delivery could help the bowlers as it would be hard for batters to hit the longer square boundaries.

South Africa on the other hand have played two and won two and a win here against Bangladesh will see them take pole position in Group D and would all but guarantee a passage to the next round. In both their games, the Proteas have bowled extremely well but we have also seen them falter with the bat. They will count themselves a bit lucky against Netherlands as David Miller and Tristan Stubbs pulled them out of trouble and the former even went on to score a match-winning half-century. We already know that this pitch will aid the bowlers, so, it will really come down to which side can have that mental fortitude with the bat. Can South Africa overome another stern challenge and get one foot into the Super Eights? Or will Bangladesh rise up and go level on points with them? We shall find out. Toss and teams in a bit.

Bangladesh have played one match so far and that was a very close encounter against Sri Lanka in Dallas. With a win under their belt, the players will be confident of notching up an upset against a Proteas side that didn't look like a tournament favorite in their last game against Netherlands. Bangladesh do have the bowling attack to trouble the best of teams but it is all about consistency and that batting lineup needs to back the bowlers if they are to get the win.

Hello and welcome back to the Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York where less than 24 hours ago we witnessed an epic encounter between two eternal rivals, India and Pakistan. The venue has seen a game daily since the 7th of June and to kick off a new week in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, we have Bangladesh taking on South Africa in a Group D clash. Both teams are unbeaten so far and will look to battle it out for supremacy in this group and thankfully, it is a fairly sunny morning in New York.

... MATCH DAY ...

South Africa has kicked off this World Cup with two impressive wins, edging closer to a spot in the Super Eight. However, their victory over the Netherlands wasn't easy, with a gritty half-century from David Miller and a crucial contribution from Tristan Stubbs getting them across the line. Now, another tricky challenge awaits as they prepare to face Bangladesh. South Africa's bowling has been fantastic so far, with Anrich Nortje leading the pace attack and finding his rhythm. Ottneil Baartman has been brilliant, especially at the death, while Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen add strength to their formidable attack. Keshav Maharaj has done well as the lone spinner, and Stubbs can pitch in if needed. However, their batting needs to step up if they want to challenge the big guns. Quinton de Kock will be key at the top, while more is expected from Aiden Markram and Reeza Hendricks. Heinrich Klaasen has the potential to be lethal but needs to be more patient on tricky pitches. With a few tweaks, South Africa could become a force to reckon with in this tournament. Bangladesh, on the other hand, started their campaign with a thrilling win over their Asian rivals, Sri Lanka. Veteran Mahmudullah grabbed the two points with a quick cameo in a crunch situation. Litton Das provided a good start but needs to show more intent, while Towhid Hridoy was excellent, top-scoring in the last game. Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan, and Najmul Hossain Shanto need to take on more responsibility in the batting unit. Much will depend on Shakib Al Hasan, who can contribute in both departments, and with this being his last T20 World Cup, he'll be eager to perform well. Their bowling attack is solid, with Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib forming a strong pace battery, while Rishad Hossain complements Shakib in the spin department. Mahmudullah also provides a decent option. Their collective effort in the last game restricted Sri Lanka to under 130, and they’ll aim to pressure the Proteas' batters who have shown vulnerability. The stakes are high. Will South Africa make it three wins in a row, or will Bangladesh stop them in their tracks? We’ll find out soon in what promises to be another thrilling encounter! Word count: 362
