Commentary

Well then, that is it from this immersive second T20I where South Africa beat India in a low-scoring thriller. Two played and two more to go. Now, with the series deadlocked at 1-1, the action shifts to the iconic SuperSport Park of Centurion. The third T20I will be played on Wednesday, November 13 and the first ball will be bowled at 3 pm GMT. Till then, cheers and take care!

The captain of South Africa, Aiden Markram says that the bowlers bowled really well and executed the plans nicely. Mentions that their plan was to break the chase at the halfway mark but it did not come off for them. Further says that when it does not come off, they need to take it on the chin but it is important that they stick to their brand of cricket. Shares that younger guys in the side inspire the older guys. Feels that they need to take one game at a time.

The skipper of India, Suryakumar Yadav says that you always have to back whatever the total you have on the board. Says that in a T20I game, you never want to put 120s or 130s on the board and then go onto the ground defending that. But also says that he feels proud of the way they fought with the ball. Appreciates Varun Chakaravarthy and tells that someone getting a 5-fer while defending 124 is just incredible. Also mentions that Varun has been waiting for this for a long time and has worked really hard on his bowling skills. Concludes by saying that two games to go with a lot of entertainment left and that going to Centurion with 1-1 is going to be a lot of fun.

Tristan Stubbs is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his match-winning knock. He says that the run rate never got away and he always had the belief that they could do it. Shares that even if the situation was 30 runs in 3 overs, he felt that it was gettable. Shares that Gerald Coetzee also had the belief and he took the pressure off him. Mentions that they were always a couple of hits away from bringing the situation back to run-a-ball. Adds that he tried to control his breathing to ease the nerves. States that it is his mother's birthday so there were 20-30 people who came to watch him play. Ends by saying that this is his favourite place to play cricket

... THE PRESENTATION CEREMONY ...

Earlier in the game, South Africa's pacers came out swinging and looked threatening. Jansen and Coetzee struck like lightning, removing India's openers in back-to-back first two overs. SKY's early exit only deepened India's wounds in a brutal Powerplay. While the seamers dominated, Proteas' spinners turned the screws, choking any chance of partnerships. Axar and Tilak managed to scratch past 20, while the rest of India's lineup crumbled under relentless pressure. Add in South Africa's electric fielding along with the dot balls, and it was a perfect storm of dominance. Hardik Pandya though took the matters in his hands and contributed 39 but took 45 balls. South Africa closed up well and conceded just 9 off the last two overs and cherry on the top, bowled 62 dot balls.

However, in these tight, low-scoring battles, the game can pivot on the smallest of margins - a crucial partnership, a couple of big overs, or even a gutsy solo stand. It was Tristan Stubbs who emerged as South Africa's saviour, standing firm and attempting to navigate his team through troubled waters. He also got an able support from Coetzee who struck a couple of lusty boundaries in the backend. The two added 42 valuable runs off just 20 deliveries and bailed South Africa out of huge trouble. With the spin making the batters dance to its tune, India could have utilized more of Axar Patel who bowled only a solitary over in which he gave away 2 runs. Also, South Africa played less number of dot balls as compared to their opponents - 51 vs 62 to be exact.

The tricky pitch, offering unpredictable bounce, kept batters guessing and scoring in check. The game-changing moment arrived through Varun Chakaravarthy's masterclass - his lethal spell ripping through South Africa's middle order. His five-wicket haul proved decisive, swinging the momentum firmly in India's favor as the Proteas struggled to counter his wrong'uns. As a result, South Africa were reduced from a comfortable 64/3 to a dangerous 86/7.

India began their defence almost mirroring their opponents and kept things on a leash. Arshdeep and Avesh maintained tight lines and lengths to keep the batters quiet for the most part. Despite getting hit for a few boundaries, Arshdeep struck gold in the Powerplay, and Varun Chakravarthy made an instant impact, sending a struggling Markram back to the pavilion. Both teams faced early jitters as the Powerplay ended in a deadlock - South Africa at 34/2 slightly edging India's 34/3 at the same stage.

A proper Sunday blockbuster entertainer here at St George's Park, Gqeberha! It was a low-scoring game but had both sides bite the skin of their lips at times. The momentum constantly tilted back and forth but it were the hosts who eventually had the last laugh. India might feel they made the Proteas to huff and puff to chase the paltry total. But it was the batting masterclass from Tristan Stubbs and Gerald Coetzee towards the backend that saw the hosts cross the line.

FOUR! Two in two from Stubbs to take South Africa over the line! He is all pumped as he punches the air in delight and exchanges a hug with Gerald Coetzee. Arshdeep takes the pace off and goes into the wicket, on middle, Tristan Stubbs rises with the bounce and picks the change of pace. Waits for the ball to arrive and nails the pull through square leg for a boundary. South Africa win by 3 wickets with an over to spare and level the series 1-1!

18.54

FOUR! Bludgeoned! Arshdeep hurls it on a short of a length, on off, Tristan Stubbs stands upright and flat bats it hard and to the left of mid on for the third boundary of the over. Scores are level now!

18.40

Fuller in length, on off, Tristan Stubbs firms the drive but picks out the man at cover. Missed out there did Stubbs!

18.30

A mix-up but no harm done! This is on a short of a length, on off, Tristan Stubbstaps it off the back foot in front of backward point. Gerald Coetzee sets off for the single but gets sent back halfway through the run. Arshdeep Singh is away from the stumps at the bowling end. The throw comes on the bounce to Arshdeep who collects but by then, Coetzee puts the dive in and gets back.

18.24

FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries and that should do it for South Africa! Angled across the batter, on a nagging length, Tristan Stubbs throws his hands at the delivery and flays it between short third and backward point for four more runs. Just 5 needed now from 10.

18.14

FOUR! Short and punished! Arshdeep bowls it on a back of a length, on middle, Tristan Stubbs stands tall and dispatches the pull up and over mid-wicket. There is no one in the deep and it races away for a boundary.

17.61

Good last 3 balls from Avesh but the damage was already done in the first half! It is South Africa's game to lose from here. They need 13 runs from 12 balls. Low full toss, on middle and leg, Stubbs wrists it wide of deep mid-wicket and retains the strike with a single.

17.51

Avesh nails the yorker again, on off, Gerald Coetzee tries to squeeze it out on the off side but gets a bottom edge on it. The keeper, Sanju Samson does well to stay low and makes a half-stop. They cross.

17.40

Swing and a miss! This is on a fullish length, on off, Gerald Coetzee swings to go through the off side but fails to get underneath it. The ball goes under his bat and through to the keeper.

17.32

Avesh gets the yorker in now, at the toes, Gerald Coetzee gets his bat down in time and squeezes it out in the vacant mid-wicket region and comes charging back for the second run. 10 runs off the first 3 balls of the over. 15 needed from 15.

17.24

FOUR! Two in two for Gerald Coetzee and the pressure is firmly on Avesh and India. Just over a run-a-ball needed now for South Africa. 17 runs in 16 balls. Avesh goes into the wicket but fails to get it high enough to trouble the batter, on off, Gerald Coetzee stands tall and hops with the bounce to slap it up and over wide mid off for a boundary.

17.14

FOUR! A full toss from Avesh and it gets the treatment! Like Arshdeep, Avesh errs as he dishes out a low full toss, on middle, Gerald Coetzee hits through the line and lofts it to the left of long on for a boundary.

Avesh Khan is brought back into the attack. His figures read 2-0-11-0 so far.

FOUR! Stubbs finishes the over well for South Africa! 12 runs off the over. The 100 comes up for the Proteas. They now need 25 runs in 18 balls. Arshdeep goes searching for the yorker but ends up bowling a low full toss, around off, Tristan Stubbs does not try to overhit this one and just times the drive to the left of cover and picks up a boundary.

16.51

Pitched up now, on off, Gerald Coetzee drills it to the left of the bowler and gets to the other end. 29 needed off 19. 8 runs off the over so far.

16.40

Arshdeep changes his angle of attack as he comes from around the wicket and lands it full, on off, Gerald Coetzee tries to force it down the ground with a horizontal bat but bunts it back to the bowler.

16.36

SIX! BANG! Wow, what a strike! South Africa need more of these. Arshdeep hurls it on a length, angled across the batter, Gerald Coetzee shuffles across and gets close to the line of the ball. Tonks it over long off and it goes on to hit the roof.

16.21

Serves it fuller in length, on off, Stubbs presents the full face of the bat and drives it down to long off for a single.

16.10

Arshdeep comes back into the attack and starts from over the wicket. Angles the ball across the batter, on a short of a length, Tristan Stubbs switches his stance and goes for the reverse lap. It does not come off for Tristan who fails to connect.

Commentary

Welcome back for the chase. Suryakumar Yadav and his men disperse from the huddle and make their way out to the centre. Arshdeep Singh will kickstart proceedings with the new ball for India. It will be the left-hand right-hand combination of Ryan Rickelton and Reeza Hendricks to open the innings for South Africa. Two slips in place. Here we go!

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, 124 does not look enough but some late hitting by Hardik has given India something to bowl at. Early wickets will be key for them if they are to make a match out of this. The Proteas, meanwhile, will be confident in chasing down this target, though there’s a slight question mark over Aiden Markram’s availability after he took a knock on his right pinky in the final over. Back in a bit for the chase.

A promotion up the order for Axar Patel ended in heartbreak as he was run out in an unfortunate fashion, adding to India's troubles. Hardik Pandya found himself struggling to get out of first gear, unable to even rotate the strike consistently, which left the visitors limping along with little momentum. With Arshdeep Singh at the other end, Hardik farmed the strike towards the back end of the innings and did manage to get a few big shots away. However, he could not provide the desired finish to his side as Jansen and Coetzee produced a death-bowling masterclass.

Just 9 runs off the last two overs and as a bowling side, you will take that any day of the week. This has been some turnaround in just a couple of days. The Proteas bowlers delivered a completely different display here in Gqeberha, avenging their tough outing in Durban. From the first ball, they were relentless, not giving India any breathing room. Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee set the tone, with Andile Simelane joining the attack to dismantle India’s top order inside the Powerplay. The spinners took charge in the middle overs, tightening the screws and never letting the opposition off the hook.

FOUR! A boundary to end the innings but still a good final over from Jansen! Short of a good length, outside off, Hardik Pandya stands upright and ramps it over the leaping Heinrich Klaasen for a boundary at deep third.

19.52

Length and on the stumps. Pandya pulls it to deep mid-wicket and instantly calls for the second. Arshdeep obeys his partner and motors to the other end. The throw comes in at the keeper's end where Pandya is home just in time.

19.40

IN THE AIR...AND DROPPED AGAIN! Gerald Coetzee is the culprit but it's the fourth dot in the over. Marco Jansen surprises Pandya with a steep bumper on off, Hardik Pandya mistimes to hit it over cover and ends up slicing it off the blade towards the deep third region. It balloons off the willow and travels towards Gerald Coetzee who settles himself underneath the ball to pouch it but spills it in the end. No run taken.

19.30

Banged short and across off, Hardik Pandya stays leg side of the ball and cuts it flat and straight to deep cover where Reeza Hendricks does an excellent work to collect the ball on the bounce. Three dots in a row now!

Halt! Chance spilled and to make matters worse, Aiden Markram seems to have hurt himself in the process. The Proteas skipper is down on the ground and seems to have taken a blow to the little finger of his right hand. Gets medical attention from the physio and is ready to resume.

19.20

DROPPED! Just spilled out! Jansen slips in a low full toss around off, Hardik Pandya slices it off the bat and hits it flat and straight towards mid off where Aiden Markram bends low to take the catch but the ball yorks the fingertips of Markram and he is on his knees in pain.

19.10

A vicious yorker on the stumps, Hardik Pandya jams his bat down and digs it out back to Jansen. A dot to start the final over.

Well bowled, again! A slower yorker just outside the leg stump, Hardik Pandya is beaten by the pace and it goes between the bat and the stumps to the keeper where Heinrich Klaasen tumbles to collect the ball. Hardik Pandya is quick to charge in to the other end to collect the bye.

18.50

Really good mix-up this from Gerald Coetzee! Stays around the stumps, bangs in a bumper on the middle, on the bodyline, Hardik Pandya misses to connect the pull shot.

18.40

Around the wicket charges in Coetzee now. Spears in a fuller ball, on the leg stump line, Hardik Pandya misses to flick it away and the ball deflects off his front pad to the keeper where Heinrich Klaasen collects it sharply to his left.

18.41wd

WIDE! Outside the tramline, full in length, Hardik leaves. Wide called. Gerald Coetzee is not happy with the Wide given and has a brief word with the umpire.

18.30

Wild swing and a miss! Gerald Coetzee rolls his fingers on the leather and slows a yorker outside off, Hardik Pandya swings with all his might only to meet thin air.

18.21

Much full and outside off, Arshdeep Singh drives it to deep point for a single. 'Enjoy it from the other end now', says Hardik after completing the run.

18.10

Seeing Arshdeep moving across the leg side, Gerald Coetzee follows the batter and bowls it closer to his body, on the leg stump, Arshdeep Singh opens the bat face to guide it away to the short third but is beaten by the pace.

FOUR! Brilliant! On the top of the middle, on a good length, Hardik Pandya arches back and ramps it over the keeper for a boundary. A good over from India's perspective as Hardik squeezes out 14 runs off it.

17.50

Good gas! Spearing in on a good length, outside off, Hardik gets beaten on the uppercut.

17.40

Doesn't carry! Nice change of pace from Jansen. A slower bumper outside off, Hardik Pandya ramps it in the air but it lands safely on the bounce just ahead of the deep third fielder. Hardik denies the single.

17.36

SIX! BOOM! Shot of the highest quality from Pandya! Just around off on a good length, Hardik Pandya opens the face of the bat and lofts it over cover for a cracking six.

17.20

A knee-length full toss on the pads, Hardik Pandya whips it across to deep mid-wicket for a single.

17.14

FOUR! Into the 20s moves Hardik and is shifting gears now! Almost a half-tracker just around off, Hardik Pandya gets a comfortable bounce. Stays leg side of the ball and stands tall and cuts it square and beats the diving deep cover fielder to his right for a boundary.

Good last 3 balls from Avesh but the damage was already done in the first half! It is South Africa's game to lose from here. They need 13 runs from 12 balls. Low full toss, on middle and leg, Stubbs wrists it wide of deep mid-wicket and retains the strike with a single.

This does not turn and keeps straight, on a nagging length, on off, Gerald Coetzee dabs it wide of point for a single.

Strategic Break! Varun Chakaravarthy bowling masterclass has put India right back in the contest now. With Klaasen, Miller, all back in the sheds without any impact, the onus lies on the lone recognized batter, Tristan Stubbs. India will look forward to getting rid of him as soon as possible to put a step ahead in the contest. Gerald Coetzee is in at number 9 and the two would now aim to bat through to the end and sail their team home.

Varun Chakaravarthy changes the angle of attack for the left-hander and bowls from around the stumps. Drifts it into the stumps and lands it fuller in length, just around off, David Miller does not pick up the googly and plays inside the line of the ball. Strategic Break! Indian bowlers have worked hard to prevent boundaries from flowing freely. However, in such low-score chases, one good over or two can shift the momentum back toward the opposition. South Africa have lost 3 wickets but they have still got Miller and Klaasen waiting in the sheds. They need 70 off 66 balls now and won't be taking too many risks at this stage of the game. Meanwhile, Varun Chakaravarthy has done the most damage to the opposition and the others will need to step up as well. India need wickets, in clusters, and that too, as quickly as possible.

15.40

What a beauty! A deceptive quicker googly from Peter, just outside off, Arshdeep Singh fails to read the wrong'un and leans on to defend but gets beaten all ends up. He plays inside the line and the ball flirts past the outside edge. Heinrich Klaasen collects the ball and dislodges the bails in a flash. Aiden Markram has gone upstairs for caught behind. First, the TV umpire checks for the stumping and finds that Arshdeep's back foot was well inside the popping crease. Now, UltraEdge comes up and shows no spike. NOT OUT! Rinku Singh sits down and looks to sweep it aerially but fails to get his bat underneath the ball properly. It has also gotten dark for the Indians as they have already lost half of the side and are not even past 100. South Africa have come out much improved with the ball and also in the field. They will look forward to removing these two batters as quickly as possible and tightening the screws further. All set for the action to begin! And as we speak, the sun is peeking out of the clouds and it has gotten pleasingly bright and sunny at Gqeberha. A great lively crowd greets the players from both camps. The two umpires are already out in the middle and the South African players take their fielding positions. Out walk the Indian opening pair - Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. It will be Marco Jansen to begin the proceedings for South Africa with the brand new ball. Here we go...

Well, pleasing signs as it was just a passing shower. However, it remains overcast, with slight chances of showers here and there as the evening progresses. As of now, the covers have been peeled off and now, the two sets of players line up for their respective national anthems. It will be India's first, followed by the national anthem of South Africa.

UPDATE - 1.38 pm GMT - There was a bit of rain in the air whilst the toss was taking place but the players are still out there, going through their warm-up drills and we should be fine for an on-time start. That said, the strip has been covered now but it looks to be more as a precaution.

The captain of India, Suryakumar Yadav says that they achieved what they wanted to do in the first game and is glad that kept up with their brand of cricket. Mentions that they learn from every game irrespective of the result. Hopes that they can continue the good work and shares that he would want the team to be a bit tidier. Informs that they are going with the same team as the last game.

Aiden Markram, the captain of South Africa says that due to rain around, bowling is a good option. He is hopeful that there might be some help for the seamers. About the team changes, Markram informs that Reeza Hendricks is well now and he comes in for Patrick Kruger. Mentions it is a huge opportunity for them. Also tells they are not worried about the results, but they will look to execute their plans.

PITCH REPORT - Ashwell Prince and Shaun Pollock are inspecting the St. George's Park's pitch. Shaun Pollock says that there's a bit of cross breeze blowing across the park. He is joined by Ashwell Prince who says that it is overcast and there is some chance of rain. Adds the surface looks a bit different than usual. Mentions that there's more grass which will encourage the seam bowlers a bit more. Pollock then adds that the pitch is hard and firm and also reckons that there might not be much assistance for the spinners. Prince concludes and says that the captain who wins the toss must elect to bowl first keeping the weather in mind.

Historically, St George's Park has favoured seamers, which may influence both teams to lean on pace for this game. Although a shower or two could be on the cards, the conditions look largely favourable. Strap in, folks! We are in for a captivating ride. Stay tuned for the toss and team news!

On India’s side, Sanju Samson's blistering century set up a formidable total, which, while it could have been higher, proved sufficient on the day. Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi then took over, taking 3 wickets each to seal the deal. India are on an impressive 11-match T20I winning streak, and a victory today would bring them level with their all-time best run in the format.

South Africa may not have taken much from their 61-run defeat, but their late fightback with the ball, led by Gerald Coetzee, was a positive sign. On the batting front, their frailties against spin were evident and how they tackle the Indian spin threat will be key to their fortunes not just in this game but for the rest of the series. A collective effort across all departments will be key if Aiden Markram and Co. are to turn the tide.

Hello and a warm welcome, folks! After an exciting start in Durban, the T20I series between South Africa and India has now shifted south to Gqeberha for the second match of this four-game contest. The visitors made a strong statement with a commanding win in the series opener, and a victory here would secure them an unassailable lead. The hosts, however, will be eager to even things up before the action shifts to Centurion.
