Commentary

Right then, England have staged a thrilling comeback to level the series at 1-1, setting up an electrifying decider in the third and final ODI! The action is set to unfold on November 6th at the iconic Kensington Oval in Barbados, with the first ball scheduled for 6 pm GMT. Be sure to join us well in advance for all the prematch buildup. Until then, it's cheers and goodbye!

The captain of West Indies, Shai Hope says that it was a decent score with the outfield being a bit heavy and the pitch being slightly on the slower side. Feels that they thought it was enough but it wasn't the case. Mentions that personal milestones are irrelevant to him as long as they don't contribute to the team's win. Reckons that they were not disciplined with the ball and gave Livingstone and Curran a lot of easy options to score. Further says that they did not hit their straps with the ball and despite having clear plans, they did not execute well.

Liam Livingstone, the victorious skipper is also the Player of the Match for his outstanding unbeaten knock of 124 runs off 85 balls. He says he backs himself and is enjoying the game at the moment. Adds that with the wind being strong at one end, he focused on making use of it. Appreciates Sam Curran and says he is always aware of what happens around and the way he played took the pressure off of him. Mentions that he was looking for one of their top 6 batters to go big and is just happy that it happened. Concludes that it was a good win and they will now rest and look to come back again at it in the decider.

It's now time for the Presentation Ceremony...

Earlier in the game, England led by John Turner, launched their attack perfectly, dismissing both West Indies openers early and leaving the hosts struggling at 12/2. However, Keacy Carty and captain Shai Hope rose to the challenge, stabilizing the innings with a composed yet brisk 143-run partnership. After Carty’s dismissal, Sherfane Rutherford stepped up seamlessly, building on Hope’s momentum with a 79-run stand that set the stage for a thrilling finish. Shai Hope led by example, reaching a superb century and anchoring the innings, before impactful cameos from Shimron Hetmyer and Matthew Forde propelled the West Indies to an imposing 328/6. England and Liam Livingstone were left searching for answers, rotating through nine bowlers in an attempt to break the West Indies’ flow. Some late relief came when the pacers slowed the pace towards the end, but it proved a little consolation as the West Indies finished strong, setting England a challenging target.

Despite a couple of promising partnerships thereon, England faced setbacks with the dismissals of their set batters, Phil Salt for 59 and Jacob Bethell soon after reaching his maiden half-century. These wickets gave the West Indies a glimmer of hope to break through further. However, Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran responded with a commanding 140-run stand, with Livingstone notching his first ODI century and Curran adding a crucial half-century. Although Matthew Forde claimed Curran's wicket late in the game, the target was well within England’s grasp. They sealed the victory comfortably, finishing with 15 balls to spare and five wickets in hand. Both teams may have lacked experience, but England held their nerve and ramped up the pressure in the death overs, transforming this mammoth chase into what looked like a cakewalk in the final 10 overs.

Chasing a formidable target of 329, Phil Salt set out with clear intent, finding his rhythm straight away. However, Will Jacks struggled to keep up the pace and was soon dismissed by Matthew Forde. The West Indies pacers maintained tight lines, preventing the new batter, Jordan Cox from settling in. Debutant Shamar Joseph then struck decisively, removing Cox early and tipping the scales in the hosts' favour.

Wow, what a masterclass chase from England, led brilliantly by their skipper Liam Livingstone, who stood tall and unbeaten at 124 runs to seal the game. This is the second-highest successful run chase in the Caribbean! With this commanding performance, England not only level the series 1-1 but also set up an exciting decider for the third ODI.

Commentary

We are back for England's reply. The two umpires and players have made their way out to the middle. Phil Salt and Will Jacks are the two openers for England. Matthew Forde will start with the new ball for West Indies. A slip in place. Away we go!

... THE RUN CHASE ...

As many as 9 bowling options including himself were used by Livingstone but as a unit, they could not limit the damage in a fashion they would have liked. Only 16 runs were scored in the 3 overs before the 50th over and a good last over could have helped the tourists to take a bit of momentum into their batting effort but it wasn't to be. A ray of hope for England is that the last 6 games at this venue have been won by the chasing side but given the lack of experience in their batting unit, this is a pretty tall ask. A good Powerplay will set them up nicely for the rest of the chase. Back in a bit for the second half of the game.

Keacy Carty is down for a chat. He says it looks like a good total and the batting group did pretty well and they will now look to defend it. Adds that they played well despite losing a couple of quick wickets and he kept things simple and put the bad balls away. Appreciates the skipper for the way he led from the front and says Hope is a wonderful player and the whole world knows it.

Both reached well-earned fifties and their 143-run stand well and truly set a platform for a big total. Sherfane Rutherford capitalised on the groundwork laid by Hope and Carty and got off the blocks quickly. His 36-ball 54 and a quickfire cameo from Hetmyer kept the momentum going for the hosts. Dropped when he was on 60 by Salt, Hope made the most of that life as he went on to score his 17th ODI ton. After reaching the landmark, he shifted gears and after his departure, Forde did what was asked of him with his 11-ball 23 propelling West Indies past 325.

Matthew Forde has polished off the innings with his finishing touches! 19 runs off the last over allow West Indies to finish on a high and end up with 328 on the board. Earlier in the game, after being inserted into bat, the hosts were dealt early blows by John Turner. Having lost both openers inside the first four overs, Shai Hope and Keacy Carty dug the hosts out of trouble with a steady partnership. Hope was proactive from the outset, while Carty grew in confidence as he settled in.

OUT! CAUGHT! The pace-off ploy works right for England and Jofra Archer! A bit too late to execute maybe? But nevertheless, Archer gets the big wicket of Shai Hope! Lands it full, outside off, taking all the pace off it, Shai Hope gets closer to the line and looks for a big hoick but only gets elevation on it. Hits it in front of long off to his right and Liam Livingstone is quick across the turf. He moves towards the ball and slides to his right to take it well around his chest. Hope goes for a well-made 117 (127). West Indies are now 297/6 with 3 overs left in the innings.

John Turner is down for a quick chat. Concludes that it is very special to be bowling with Jofra Archer who has achieved so much and keeps it all cool.

Proceeds to tell about the boundary dimensions - the square boundaries are equidistant - 63 metres each with the straight boundary being 73 metres. Carlos Brathwaite joins him and says there is a little bit of moisture and it will be challenging for West Indies up front. Mentions that it will be important for the pacers to hit the 6-8 metre lengths. Talks about the inexperience in their pace attack and says that the youngsters will be eager to grab the opportunity and do well. The captain of England, Liam Livingstone says that there was a bit of rain around last night and they want to make use of the moisture. Feels that they did not bowl badly in the first game and lauds Jofra Archer and John Turner for the way they bowled. Hopes that the spinners can get some assistance in the middle phase from this surface. Reckons that as a batter, it is important that you play your natural game and find the way that works for you in ODI cricket. Further says that many batters got starts in the last game and hopes they can make it big, once they get in. Informs that they have made one change with Saqib Mahmood coming in for Jamie Overton.

A couple of rain delays shortened the West Indies innings to 35 overs in the first game and rain could be a factor again today, as intermittent showers are expected during the game. Let’s hope the weather doesn’t play spoilsport and we get a full game in. Stay tuned for the toss and team news!

England, meanwhile, brought in four debutants for the first ODI, and their lack of experience showed as they struggled to adapt in a heavy defeat. Their batting unit faltered, managing only 209 runs after being inserted into bat. To keep the series alive, Liam Livingstone and Co. will need a much-improved showing, not only in their batting but across all departments, with a focus on executing well as a cohesive unit.

The hosts were flawless in the series opener, securing a well-deserved lead. A commanding bowling performance set up their victory, and Evin Lewis's entertaining knock took them comfortably over the line. After a disappointing tour of Sri Lanka, where they lost both the T20I and ODI series, Shai Hope and his men will be hungry to taste the success of a series win here.

Hello and a warm welcome, folks, to our coverage of the 2nd ODI between West Indies and England at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound. We are here in Antigua for one last time in this three-match series before the teams head to Barbados for the third and final ODI. With West Indies leading the series 1-0, they will be looking to seal the series today, while England seek a quick turnaround to force the decider.
