Commentary

And with that, the curtains come down on this series. Shai Hope collects the trophy and then joins his teammates for the celebratory pictures. All smiles in the West Indies camp as they savour the victory. But the England tour of the West Indies is far from over. The attention now shifts to the upcoming T20I series, with the five-match contest set to kick off right here in Bridgetown, Barbados. The first T20I will take place on 9th November, Saturday with the first ball to be bowled at 8 pm GMT. As always, you can join us early for all the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!

The skipper of West Indies, Shai Hope says that they were disciplined and to be an elite team, it is important that you do it consistently. Shares that his players are doing a lot of work off the field and they are reaping the rewards. Feels that this series showed that when they are challenged, they have the ability to fight back. Tells that he is really happy with the way the batting unit performed and appreciates the bowlers for their efforts.

Matthew Forde is the PLAYER OF THE SERIES for 8 wickets in the series and a great knock with the bat in the second ODI. He says he was really surprised to bag this award. Talks about his variations with the ball and says it was about keeping it on that good length and with assistance from the wicket he just had to keep things tight. Talks about the collective team effort and mentions that they respect the opinions of one another and the brotherhood is really strong.

The captain of England, Liam Livingstone says that they fought back really well and that the boys batted really well at the end. Tells that it was a disappointing end to the series but there were a lot of positives for them in this series. Mentions that some of the young boys would have learned lessons of gold from the first trip. Adds that they were missing a lot of important players in this series. Ends by saying that it was a massive honour to lead the country and he loved captaining the side.

Brandon King is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his superb ton. He says he has been getting starts but hasn't been able to capitalize but this came at the right time. Adds that he trusts his ability and sticks to the process. Appreciates Keacy and says he was fluent from the outset and helped him well in the middle. Talks about his catch and says the momentum was taking him outside the rope and luckily Alzarri was there to support and concludes that this has been one of his best knocks.

Time for the presentation ceremony....

Earlier in the game, Shai Hope followed the trend at this venue and opted to chase. The drama unfolded as soon as Alzarri Joseph was introduced into the attack. Seemingly frustrated with a field setup disagreement, Joseph stormed off the field after taking a wicket in his first over. Romario Shepherd stepped in, striking twice in his opening spell to leave the tourists reeling at 24/4. Phil Salt then anchored England’s recovery with two crucial 70-run partnerships, first with Sam Curran and then with Dan Mousley. Though Salt and Mousley couldn’t provide the finishing touches, Overton and Archer unleashed an aggressive burst in the final overs to propel England to 263. For West Indies, Matthew Forde was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 35 from his 10 overs, including a maiden. Alzarri Joseph and Romario Shepherd chipped in with 2 wickets each while Roston Chase had a solitary wicket to his name.

The West Indian chase began promisingly, aided by an English new-ball attack that struggled to find its rhythm early on. Although Jamie Overton’s introduction brought a breakthrough, it didn’t do much to stem the flow of runs. King looked as assured as ever, while Carty grew in confidence as the innings progressed. Soon, both batters were matching each other shot for shot, and the game quickly turned into one-way traffic. Both batters reached centuries during their 209-run stand, with Carty's being a maiden ODI hundred, making it even more special. King couldn’t stay until the end, but Carty, along with captain Shai Hope, guided West Indies home with 7 overs to spare.

An emphatic victory for the West Indies as they clinch the series in style! Chasing 264 turned out to be a stroll in the park for the hosts. Beyond just a series win, this triumph also brings crucial points in the race for direct qualification to the 2027 ODI World Cup. Despite the series loss, it hasn’t been all doom and gloom for the visitors. With as many as four players making their ODI debuts, they lacked experience but will take away valuable lessons from this series.

Commentary

Welcome back for West Indies' reply. The umpires are out and are followed by the England players who are spreading across the field. Brandon King and Evin Lewis are the openers for West Indies! Jofra Archer has the new ball in hand and is raring to go! Away we go!

... THE RUN CHASE ...

With the momentum now firmly on their side, England head into the defence of a very respectable 263, quite a turnaround on a ground notorious for tough defences! They’ll still need sharp, disciplined bowling from the outset to keep West Indies under pressure and make early inroads. For the hosts, it’s all about starting strong. A solid foundation from the top order will be crucial to chasing this total down, allowing them to take control and avoid any mid-innings drama. We’re all set for a gripping second innings!

Phil Salt is in for a chat. He says that as a team, they are happy where they are at in the game. Shares that he would have loved to get a three-figure score. Mentions that it was hard work early on against the new ball. Feels that this is a good batting effort considering the position they were in at 24/4. Reckons that they can defend this score if they get a few early wickets.

Undeterred, Phil Salt continued to bat with caution and notched up a well-deserved half-century. Brandon King then produced a sensational catch to dismiss Salt, breaking a crucial partnership at a pivotal moment. Dan Mousley, then shifted gears to inject much-needed momentum into the innings. Teaming up with Jamie Overton, Mousley took full advantage of West Indies’ depleted death bowling, with Romario Shepherd sidelined due to a left-leg injury. Mousley’s maiden half-century was crucial, helping propel England past the 200-run mark but it was Jofra Archer's late surge that pushed them to a total they will fancy defending.

The defining blow came with the prized wicket of England’s captain, Liam Livingstone, fresh off a century in the previous game. Romario Shepherd’s delivery found its mark, sending Livingstone back to the pavilion and leaving England in dire straits at 24/4 just around the 10-over mark. Struggling to find any momentum, England seemed on the brink, until Sam Curran stepped in with resolve. Curran’s steady presence alongside Phil Salt offered a glimmer of hope, as the pair set about stabilizing the innings. With a few confident strokes to break the tension, Curran and Salt managed to craft a crucial 70-run partnership that gave England a foothold in the game. However, their hard work was disrupted when Roston Chase claimed Curran’s wicket, setting England back once more and forcing them to start from scratch.

After winning the toss and, unsurprisingly, choosing to bowl first, Shai Hope and West Indies couldn’t have scripted a better start. Matthew Forde led the charge with early aggression, striking in the third over to dismiss Will Jacks and ignite the pressure on England. The pacers maintained impeccable lines and lengths, reeling in two more quick wickets, one for Alzarri Joseph and another for Romario Shepherd, putting England firmly on the back foot.

What an unexpected twist to the innings! Just when it seemed England’s scoring had stalled, Jofra Archer delivered a breathtaking cameo, smashing 38 off just 17 balls to propel England to a competitive 263/8. His late blitz injected a surge of momentum, catching West Indies off guard and giving England’s bowlers a stronger total to defend than anyone anticipated.

Another brace to end the innings! Slower and around off, on a short of a length, Archer stays back and flat-bats it down the ground. Adil wants to come back for the second run but he gets sent back initially by Archer before being called through for the run. The throw from the deep is wayward and it is well wide of the bowler, allowing the batters to complete the second run comfortably. 25 runs off the over. England finish with 263/8.

49.52

On a back of a length, over middle, Archer hangs back and swipes it wide of deep mid-wicket. Comes charging back for the second run.

49.46

SIX! Jofra Archer has put on a show and how? He achieves his highest international score and this couldn't have come at a better time for his side! Adding gold to the score! Makes the short of a length ball, over middle, disappear over mid-wicket for a biggie. Full use of the Free Hit!

49.45nb

NO BALL AND A SIX! It is getting worse for Sherfane Rutherford and West Indies! Rutherford misses his mark as he ends up bowling an above-waist full toss, on off, Archer arches back and flat bats it back over the bowler's head for a boundary. Free Hit coming up.

49.36

SIX! Belted away! Angling into the right-hander, on a length, Archer clears his front leg and dispatches it over deep mid-wicket for a six.

49.24

FOUR! Misfield by Hetmyer and Sherfane isn't happy one bit! On a length, on off, Archer skips down the track and crunches it to wide long off where Shimron Hetmyer runs to his left and ends up overrunning it. The ball gets past him for a boundary.

49.10

At pace, at the stumps, on a length, Archer winds up to go back over the bowler's head. Gets an inside edge that rolls to short fine leg.

OUT! CAUGHT! A handy knock from Jamie Overton comes to an end and Matthew Forde gets his third! This is bowled wider on off and fuller, asking Jamie Overton to hit it against the wind. He goes for the big swipe away over the off side but gets only the elevation on it. Hits it in front of deep cover and Evin Lewis charges in from the ropes to take it comfortably around his chest. West Indies get the 8th English wicket and they will now hope to press harder to keep the total down to under 250!

48.54

FOUR! Thumped! Forde goes short but this sits up to be hit, Overton obliges as he stands tall and pulls it between deep mid-wicket and deep square leg for a boundary.

48.40

Slower and fuller, near the tramline on off, Overton tries to smack it through the off side but can only toe-end his shot to cover.

48.31

Full and on off, Archer drills it down the deck. Forde makes a half-stop to his left. They cross.

48.20

Back-of-the-hand slower delivery, on a nagging length, around off, too close to cut but Archer still goes for it. Gets beaten on the inside edge.

SIX! Clean strike! On a short of a length, on off, this sits up nicely for Archer who stands tall and pumps it over long on for a biggie.

47.31

47.32wd

WIDE! Make that 7 runs off only 2 legal balls so far. On a back of a length, sliding down leg, Archer fails to get any bat on the pull shot. Shai Hope dives to his left but can only manage to get his fingertips to it. The ball rolls behind for another run.

FOUR! Easy pickings to get off the mark! A bit fuller than a length and into the pads, Jamie Overton tickles it behind and beats the fielder at fine leg to his right and gets a boundary. 12 runs come off this over and is the most expensive up until now!

Alzarri Joseph (7-1-18-1) is back into the attack.

41.20

Comes from over the wicket and lands it on a length, on off, Dan Mousley steers it to backward point.

Halt! Romario Shepherd seems to have hurt his left leg after falling over in his follow-through. This does not look good for Romario. He is being helped off the field by the physio and one of his teammates. Shamar Joseph comes on as a substiute for Romario. Sherfane Rutherford will complete the over.

41.14

FOUR! Oh hello? What was that? Romario Shepherd is down and the ball is put away to the boundary. A real gift for Dan Mousley and he capitalizes well! Shepherd rolls his fingers over the ball and digs it in short but misses his footing and serves it way down leg with absolutely no pace on it. Dan Mousley waits an eternity for the ball to come to him and pulls it over short fine to help himself with a boundary.

OUT! CAUGHT! What an incredible catch from Brandon King in the deep to get rid of Phil Salt! It needed something special and King has just pulled that off beautifully. Unfortunately for him, the catch goes in the name of Alzarri Joseph but West Indies will be mighty pleased with this breakthrough! This is full and on middle and off, Phil Salt winds up and tonks it towards deep mid-wicket. He is unable to clear the ropes as it comes off the toe-end of the bat. Brandon King in the deep moves to his left and times his jump perfectly to grab the ball in both hands and flick it back to Alzarri Joseph in mid-air as he tumbles over the ropes. Joseph takes the simplest of catches. The 70-run stand is broken. Salt goes for 74 (108).

40.20

On a length, on middle, Phil Salt taps it to cover.

40.11

A comedy of errors! Matthew Forde steams in from wider on the crease and lands it on a hard length, on off, Dan Mousley steps out and looks for the swipe but gets an inside edge that rolls down past the stumps and goes back to the keeper. Phil Salt sets himself off for the run from the other end but is sent back by Mousley. Shai Hope throws an underarm throw at the bowling end but the bowler is no way backing up. This eventually allows the batters to steal a single.

End of Powerplay 2! West Indies are now allowed to have upto 5 fielders outside the 30-yard circle.

More frustration for Alzarri! Joseph goes short again, over middle, Salt swivels and pulls it to the left of deep backward square leg. The throw from the deep is wayward and it is not backed up well, allowing another run.

Drinks! West Indies have taken control of the game with a near-flawless start, leaving England in a tight spot after claiming four vital wickets early on. They will be hoping to continue to press hard in these middle overs. England’s top order is rattled, and now the pressure falls on Sam Curran, who’s looked calm and composed under fire. Curran, alongside Phil Salt, face the daunting task of digging deep and forging a solid partnership to steady this inning for them.

We are done with the national anthems. The sun is shining brightly as Shai Hope and his men break from the huddle to take their positions on the field. There’s some rain forecasted for later, but let’s hope it stays away. It will be Phil Salt and Will Jacks to open the innings for England. Matthew Forde has the new ball in hand and he is raring to go. A slip in place. Here we go!

We are moments away from the first ball in this series decider, but before that, the match officials, the two sets of players, and their mascots will line up for the national anthems. First up will be the national anthem of Barbados, followed by England’s and then the anthem of the West Indies.

Jacob Bethell is also down for a chat. He says he is very proud of the way he played in the previous game and hopes to continue. Adds that he is very excited to be a part of this series decider. Talks about Liam Livingstone and says there wasn't too much talk and Liam just came out and put the pressure back on the bowlers straightaway. Concludes that Sam Curran played his role in the previous game and hopes for both of them to help Livingstone this time around.

PITCH REPORT - Nikhil Uttamchandani is near the deck. He starts by saying that there is a 3-metre difference between the square boundaries with 64 metres to one side and 61 to the other. Adds that it is 73 metres down the ground. Feels that wind will be a factor that batters will have to take into account while clearing the boundaries. Informs that out of the 11 ODIs played here since 2020, 9 of them have been won by the chasing side. Carlos Brathwaite joins him and says that batters should look to hit straight. From a bowler's perspective, he feels that they should force the batters to hit towards the longer of the two square boundaries and use the wind to their advantage.

Shimron Hetmyer is down for a quick chat. He says he has stopped overthinking about his game and has started to enjoy it, which is showing in the way he is playing. He talks about one outing here five years ago, where he scored a century against England. Adds he was really young in the squad, which now brings a lot of fond memories, and it's very special to play against England at Barbados.

England (Playing XI) - Phil Salt (WK), Will Jacks, Jordan Cox, Jacob Bethell, Liam Livingstone (C), Sam Curran, Dan Mousley, Jamie Overton (In for Saqib Mahmood), Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley (In for John Turner).

West Indies (Playing XI) - Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Keacy Carty, Shai Hope (C/WK), Sherfane Rutherford, Shimron Hetmyer, Roston Chase, Romario Shepherd (In for Shamar Joseph), Gudakesh Motie, Matthew Forde, Alzarri Joseph (In for Jayden Seales).

The captain of England, Liam Livingstone says that they would have bowled first as well. Adds that this is a ground that heavily favours the chasing side and therefore, they would have loved to chase. Mentions that they will see what the pitch has to offer and hopes that the game goes well for them. Feels that they will need to assess the conditions quickly and take it from there. Informs that they have made two changes - Reece Topley and Jamie Overton are in for Saqib Mahmood and John Turner. Shares that they want to play an attacking brand of cricket and put the opposition under pressure.

Shai Hope, the skipper of West Indies says they aren't quite sure of how the pitch will play like and want to chase. Adds that they will have to assess the conditions quickly and play really well. States that they have two changes with Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales missing out and Alzarri Joseph and Romario Shepherd coming in.

TOSS - West Indies have won the toss and they will BOWL first.

With both teams eager to clinch the series, this final match promises intense competition. England will seek to capitalize on their recent momentum, while the West Indies will be looking to leverage their home advantage and reclaim dominance. Expect an action-packed series decider. Stick around for the toss and team news.

On the West Indies side, Shai Hope and Evin Lewis have been pivotal in the hosts' batting lineup. Hope, who has amassed 123 runs in two games, including a memorable century in the second ODI, was instrumental in giving the team a competitive total last time around. Keacy Carty and Sherfane Rutherford have also contributed valuable middle-order runs, giving West Indies stability. Gudakesh Motie's four-wicket haul in the first ODI was critical in their initial victory, while Matthew Forde has shown his ability to claim timely wickets throughout the series.

For England, Liam Livingstone has been the standout performer, especially with his match-winning unbeaten 124 in the second ODI, making him the leading run-scorer of the series with 172 runs. His explosive innings not only secured England’s chase but also underlined his importance in the middle order. Phil Salt contributed a steady fifty, applying pressure on the West Indies’ bowlers. Meanwhile, Sam Curran showed his worth with the bat, adding depth to the lineup. England's bowling attack will have to click collectively as a unit, particularly Adil Rashid who will be crucial in taking key wickets during the middle phase to keep West Indies in check.

Hello and welcome to the ODI series finale between England and West Indies at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados! After two matches, the three-game ODI series is tied at 1-1. West Indies claimed a commanding win in the first ODI, while England stormed back with a high-powered chase in the second game.
