We are here at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, for the final time in this T20I series between England and West Indies before the action shifts to St Lucia for the remaining three T20Is. It was an action-packed series opener, with momentum shifting back and forth until England’s chase turned it into a one-sided show. Chasing 183, Phil Salt was electric at the top, blasting his way through the West Indies bowling attack with a ton. He was accompanied by Jacob Bethell as the duo guided England comfortably to the finish line. The joy of victory, however, was dampened by the sight of Reece Topley limping off after an unfortunate slip in his follow-through, casting doubt on his availability for the rest of the series. If Topley sits out, John Turner or Jofra Archer are likely candidates to step in for the left-arm quick. England will be keen to refine their death bowling, as it still has room for improvement. But the batting unit is on a high, having notched up the highest successful chase in T20Is at the Kensington Oval. On the other hand, the West Indies were rocked early in their innings but showed resilience, with the lower order fighting to put up a competitive score. They will likely keep playing fearless cricket but will be hoping one or two batters can convert starts into a big score to set them up for a stronger finish. In the bowling department, Shamar Joseph lacked the impact they would have hoped for, which could see Matthew Forde, who shined in the ODI series, slot in to add more bite to their attack in the next game.
