Right then, that is it from this one-sided affair. However, the action in the Indian T20 League continues on 29th April, Monday. It will be Kolkata taking on Delhi in a crunch clash. That match will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the game. Until then, cheers and goodbye!

Ruturaj Gaikwad, the victorious skipper of Chennai is also the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his incredible knock. He says that playing in such wet conditions is really hard but this was a clinical performance. Adds that it was really hot and humid there and he was never thinking about his hundred. Tells that in the previous game, they gave away a few loose balls but they executed well in this game. Praise Tushar Deshpande for his effort and says that it was important to pick up wickets in the Powerplay. Ends by saying that he is not that vocal as there are a lot of experienced players in the dressing room and he takes a back seat.

Pat Cummins, the captain of Hyderabad says they thought bowling first was the best chance to win here but that wasn't the case in the end. Adds that the target was within reach considering the kind of explosive batters they have in the line up. Also says that nothing went right for them but also says that can't blame the line up because they have won them games at somepoint this year. Adds it was dewy and they thought it would give them a better chance in the second innings but the dew came in early. Ends up by saying that games come thick and fast in this tournamnet and they need to move on quickly and come back strongly.

Presentation Time...

Tushar Deshpande who picked up a fine 4-fer is up for a chat. He says that it was all about bowling and having patience against an aggressive batting lineup as strong as Hyderabad. Says that bowling length in the Powerplay is very crucial. Tells that the mindset is to keep hitting the same area despite being hit. Informs that the ground was soaking the dew and a couple of balls swung too. Says that they used the pitch conditions well and had a specific plan that even after getting hit they will stick to bowl on the good length area.

Earlier in the game, Chennai posted a good total on the board courtesy of an excellent knock of 98 from their skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and a fine fifty from Daryl Mitchell along with a quick-fire cameo from Dube towards the end. T Natarajan, Jaydev Unadkat, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar chipped in with wicket each for Hyderabad. While chasing, Hyderabad once again suffered a collapse in the Powerplay as well as in the middle overs and faced a big loss.

Chennai, on the other hand, were excellent with the ball early on. Tushar Deshpande was a bit expensive in his first over but ended up getting rid of Travis Head and added another to his tally as well. In his next over, he dismissed Abhishek Sharma to gain control of the game. Deepak Chahar also bowled economically which added more pressure on the batters. Then Ravindra Jadeja came in and bowled a brilliant spell picking up a wicket as well. After that, Matheesha Pathirana showed his death bowling skills and got both Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen to crash the hopes of Hyderabad. Shardul Thakur also got into the action and ended up with one. Deshpande ended up with an exceptional four-fer while Matheesha Pathirana got a couple of as well. Daryl Mitchell incredibly grabbed five catches in this game.

Hyderabad once again failed to utilise the Powerplay as both Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma went back after hitting a few lusty blows. They tried Anmolpreet Singh as the Impact Player but he too was dismissed for a golden duck. They needed a partnership and Aiden Markram along with Nitish Kumar Reddy steadied the ship for a while but not for long. No batter could really get going in the middle overs and succumbed under the pressure of the asking rate. They ended up being bowled out in the 19th over and fell short by a huge margin of 78 runs.

CLINICAL VICTORY FOR CHENNAI! They have been on top of their game in all three departments in this game and continue their unbeaten streak over Hyderabad at home. Pat Cummins and Co. have now lost two on the bounce while chasing and will need to go back to the drawing board to tweak a few things for their upcoming games.

OUT! TAKEN! Done and dusted! Chennai dominate Hyderabad once again at Chepauk and win by a daunting margin of 78 runs. Mustafizur Rahman comes from around the wicket and lands it fuller in length, angling in on off, Jaydev Unadkat clears his front foot to go over covers but doesn't time it at all and finds Moeen Ali in the way at covers who bends low and takes the catch a few centimeters above the ground. Hyderabad has been bowled out for the first time this year and Chennai has taken all ten wickets for the first time in this season. And with this win, Chennai leapfrogs to the third position in the standings.

18.41

Across off, short in length, Bhuvneshwar Kumar hops back and dabs it to deep third for a single.

18.31

Hard lenght, on off, Jaydev Unadkat dabs it off the back foot to backward point for a single.

Jaydev Unadkat is the last man in.

18.2W

OUT! TAKEN! Daryl Mitchell has been quite busy with those grabs. His fifth catch of the game! Mustafizur angles it on the pads, and keeps the length fuller, Shahbaz Ahmed swipes across aerially to clear the deep square leg fence but doesn't get the desired distance and finds Daryl Mitchell in the deep who takes another easy catch. Chennai just a solitary wicket away from a convincing win.

18.14

The ball travels straight towards Daryl Mitchell at long on who takes the fourth catch of the evening. These are the best figures for Tushar Deshpande in the Indian T20 League.

17.20

Short, banged into the surface outside off, Pat Cummins leaves it alone. He reviews for a Wide ball as he thinks the ball has passed over his head. However, the side-on replay confirms that Pat Cummins is standing in a crouched position. So it is called a fair delivery.

He takes a regulation catch in the deep and this could well be the final nail in the coffin.

Commentary

We are back for Hyderabad's reply! The two umpires are already out to the middle. Chennai players are seen in the last-minute huddle near the ropes with the skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad giving a quick pep talk before they spread to the field. Shivam Dube has been subbed out and Shardul Thakur is brought in as the Impact Sub for Chennai. The two openers for Hyderabad are Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. Deepak Chahar has the new ball and is all in readiness to bowl the first over of the chase. Let's play...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Chennai has mounted almost an identical total on the board likewise they did in the previous game, and would be keen to improve their bowling performance this time. They'll aim to remove both the openers of Hyderabad and exert pressure right on. However, the job won't be an easy one as Chennai are very well aware of the dew factor which disrupted their hopes last time. Hyderabad will be aiming to begin right in the fifth gear as they do and get on top of the game from the get-go. Stay tuned as the chase is up next.

Daryl Mitchell is up for a quick chat. Mitchell says that they will take that score but there is a bit of dew around and they will have to bowl well. Adds that the plan was to hang in there and target the match-ups to score the runs. Mentions that Gaikwad is an amazing player and it was good to be on the other end watching him play that knock. Says that they have something to defend and will give their all in the field

Meanwhile, Hyderabad came out strong, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Nitish Kumar Reddy keeping things tight in the initial overs, not giving away any boundaries. However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck gold with a crucial wicket in his second over. Despite their best efforts to rotate bowlers and unsettle the batters, Hyderabad found themselves continuously conceding runs without managing to break through. However, it was Jaydev Unadkat who finally disrupted the partnership at a crucial juncture, successfully slowing down the scoring rate to some extent. T Natarajan yet again delivered a superb spell and bowled to his strengths when the others went for runs. As the dew settled in early, bowlers struggled to maintain control over the ball, resulting in an increase in runs conceded in the backend. Jaydev Unadkat then bowled an excellent penultimate over and conceded just 8 off it. Natarajan delivered once again and removed Ruturaj Gaikwad in the last over and they managed to keep Chennai below 220.

Chennai didn't quite get the ideal beginning they were hoping for, with Ajinkya Rahane falling early yet again during the Powerplay. Ruturaj Gaikwad then decided to up the ante after a couple of quiet overs, treating fans to some delightful boundaries and pushing the scoring rate ahead. Despite the conservative start, Chennai managed to get a decent footing within the Powerplay. After his sensational century in the previous match, Gaikwad continued his impressive form by getting off to another brilliant start and converting it into a half-century. Daryl Mitchell, who was itching to score runs started off well too by striking a few lusty blows and the partnership flourished well between the two. Mitchell also eventually reached his fifty, solidifying Chennai's position with just one wicket down as the duo forged a century partnership before he got out. In came Shivam Dube who flexed his muscles and hammered a few powerful blows, quickly inflating the run rate once again and powering Chennai above 200. Ruturaj Gaikwad narrowly missed out on his century by just a couple of runs and Chennai finished at 212.

And once again, the 200-run mark has been breached in this edition of the Indian T20 League. The fourth time done by the team in yellow, Chennai. But Hyderabad might feel that they have pulled back things a bit in the last couple of overs as the dew has arrived quite early this time and they just conceded 20 runs off those two.

19.2W

OUT! TAKEN IN THE DEEP! Ruturaj Gaikwad just misses out on his hundred but Hyderabad have pulled things back here at the death. This is the off-cutter, full and on middle, Ruturaj Gaikwad goes for the big slog but fails to generate any sort of power on that, the ball goes high in the air towards deep mid-wicket, Nitish Kumar Reddy settles under it and pouches it safely. The skipper goes back after a brilliant knock here!

19.10

18.32

Fuller and outside off, Ruturaj Gaikwad lofts it wide of long off for a couple of runs. He moves onto 95 now!

18.21

18.12

Uppish but safe again! The replay confirms the same.

Cannons and aims the woods, ends up bowling a low full toss, Heinrich Klaasen goes flat for a six and looks to clear the long on fence but doesn't quite get enough wood on it and the ball sails straight into the hands of Daryl Mitchell who comfortably reverse-cups it in the long on region. This is his third catch and now Hyderabad are reeling badly.

Strategic Break! Well, Chennai is well ahead in this contest as boundaries have literally dried up for Hyderabad as they still require 104 off the last 30 deliveries remaining. Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad are having a tough time out there, just dealing in singles at the moment. Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur have bowled excellent spells and have stemmed the flow runs. The required rate has zoomed up out of the reach at 20.8 RPO. Matheesha Pathirana still has three overs in his bank and Chennai would want him to wrap things off successfully.

Ajinkya Rahane yet again failed to make any impact but that wasn't the case with the centurion of the last game, Ruturaj Gaikwad. He decided to shift the gears and did it aggressively, and also notched a brilliant half-century striking a massive six. Daryl Mitchell, who was due for runs, has also got a good start here and these two will look to open the floodgates with a lot of firepower to follow. We are all set to begin! The players are making their way out to the middle now. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ajinkya Rahane are the two openers for Chennai. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has the new ball in his hand and is raring to go. Let's play...

Daryl Mitchell is up for a flash interview. He says the boys are really excited to be at home and playing in front of this crowd is very special. States the pitch is usually on the slower side and you have to put in a lot of work to score runs. Also adds that you need to read the bowlers closely and put pressure on them. States the nature of T20 cricket is such that you win sometimes and lose sometimes and says it's about coming in and staying in the present. Also says it's crucial to play according to the pitch conditions and not think too much is happening around with plenty of 200-plus scores. About his role, he says his role is to build partnerships and put pressure on the opponents in the mid-overs. Ends up by saying that he's loving his time in this team.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of Chennai says they would have bowled first as well but toss is not in our hands. Adds that if they put on a good total there will be scoreboard pressure on their opponents. Tells that they couldn't win the crunch moments in some of the games but the confidence is stil very high in the team.

Pat Cummins, the skipper of Hyderabad won the toss and elects to BOWL first. He says it's pretty loud and the boys are pumped up. Informs that they are going with one extra batter and the leggie Mayank Markande misses out but he feels like they have got 10 bowling options. Appreciates that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a nice bowler up front and he can bowl at any phase of the game. On being asked about the reason to bowl, he says pretty much in every game they have bowled second and this is pretty good toss to win as there will be dew later on.

Impact Players for Chennai - Sameer Rizvi, Shardul Thakur, Shaik Rasheed, Mitchell Santner, Rachin Ravindra.

Chennai (Unchanged Playing XI) - Ruturaj Gaikwad (C), Ajinkya Rahane, Daryl Mitchell, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (WK), Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, Mustafizur Rahman, Matheesha Pathirana.

Impact Players for Hyderabad - Umran Malik, Mayank Markande, Washington Sundar, Glenn Phillips, Anmolpreet Singh.

Hyderabad (Playing XI) - Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head (In place of Mayank Markande), Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Abdul Samad, Shahbaz Ahmed, Pat Cummins (C), Jaydev Unadkat, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan.

TOSS - Pat Cummins calls it right and Hyderabad have elected to BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT - Anjum Chopra and Samuel Badree are at the 22 yards. Anjum Chopra begins by saying that a lovely breeze is blowing across and informs that it is slightly shorter on one side but won't make much of a difference. States that it's a dry surface and someone like Jadeja and Moeen Ali will be crucial for Chennai on this track. Samuel Badree joins her and says that three games have been won while chasing this year at Chepauk and expects the spinners to play a crucial role in this game. Also says that this pitch might produce a good spin. Ends up by saying there will be a dew factor in the second innings.

Chennai has usually not been a free-flowing track to bat but in the last few games, 200 has been easily mounted. Also, bowlers at Chepauk have had their hands full dealing with the dew in the second innings, making it quite a challenge. Will Chennai reclaim their fortress with a crucial victory, or will Hyderabad double over the rivals? Stay tuned as toss and team updates are up next.

Hyderabad also took a hit recently. Bengaluru's game plan could be a blueprint for other teams facing the orange squad, which is to make them chase the target. Despite Hyderabad's reputation for big totals, they stumbled chasing 207. Quite a shift from their usual routine of cruising past 250 while batting first, something they've done thrice. Their opening combo has been a revelation. Abhishek Sharma's adaptability against various bowlers, coupled with Travis Head's aggressive approach from the get-go, has made them the most impactful opening duo of the season. They've racked up the highest number of runs among all opening pairs. However, in the previous match, it became clear that if the opening duo encounters difficulties, it often creates a stumbling block for the rest of the batting lineup to build upon. T Natarajan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been reliable performers with the ball consistently. However, they'll be hoping for more economical spells from the rest of the bowling unit.

As for Chennai, they've hit a stumbling block, losing their last two matches - one on the road and the other at home, where Lucknow chased down a daunting target and has slid down a couple of positions in the table. Despite Ruturaj Gaikwad's magnificent century propelling them to a strong total, their bowlers failed to defend it. The ongoing struggle to find a stable opening partnership persists, as seen from Ajinkya Rahane's lack of impact at the top who opened in Rachin Ravindra's absence. Daryl Mitchell's batting slump is another concern for the team followed by Ravindra Jadeja who needs to step up his batting strike rate and tighten the screws with the ball. On a brighter note, Shivam Dube has been in sensational form, providing that requisite brute force in the middle order and inflating the run rate. Except for Matheesha Pathirana, Chennai's bowling unit has been leaking runs consistently, posing a significant challenge. ... MATCH DAY ...

The 2024 edition of the Indian T20 League has reached the business end of the competition and from here on, every game counts almost for double. In match 46 of the competition, Chennai welcome Hyderabad to the MA Chidambaram Stadium in what is expected to be a huge and enthralling encounter. Two teams who have been pretty solid for a large part of the competition but find themselves in a precarious position, needing a win here to solidify their challenge for a playoff berth. Both sides come into this contest on the back of a loss and will be hoping for a win to propel their chances of a top-four finish. Both teams have played 8 matches but Hyderabad have five wins whereas Chennai have four wins and the last time these two teams met in the season, Hyderabad won the encounter quite comfortably. Chennai are a dominant force at home but their last match against Lucknow showed that they are vulnerable and let go of a game that they should have won. Skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad hit an impressive ton which went in vain and Matheesha Pathirana bowled a fine spell which was eclipsed by some shoddy bowling at the other end. Shivam Dube has been another consistent performer for the team in Yellow but the top order has been under fire with Rachin Ravindra and Ajinkya Rahane both performing inconsistently and then the pace attack hasn't been able to take wickets consistently and the likes of Deepak Chahar and Tushar Deshpande need to step up. Ravindra Jadeja has also not performed up to his potential but MS Dhoni has done more than enough damage whenever he has got the opportunity. They need more individuals stepping up if they are to really challenge for the top four and defend their title. Hyderabad on the other hand have been absolutely blistering with the bat, scoring 250 runs for fun on multiple occasions but this staggering hitting won't always work out and they really need to focus a bit more on their bowling performances and of a Plan B if that top order doesn't fire. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma have been phenomenal throughout the season striking in and about 200 for the whole season and Heinrich Klaasen too has played a couple of fine knocks but it is the form of Aiden Markram and the lack of a more complete batter in that middle order that is a bit of a weak point at the moment. The likes of Abdul Samad, Shahbaz Ahmed and Nitish Kumar Reddy have all contributed a fair bit with the bat but they don't quite provide the stability if Hyderabad lose early wickets. On the bowling front, it has been hit and miss with Bhuvneshwar Kumar not at his best and Pat Cummins getting majority of the wickets but getting hit for a few runs as well. T Natarajan has been the most consistent pacer but Jaydev Unadkat has also shown signs of excellence. The spin attack is a definite concern with Mayank Markande bowling the majority of the spin overs and Shahbaz Ahmed being used more as a batter than a spinner. This match has a lot of individual battles in it and a lot of players have a point to prove but more importantly, it is about avoiding another defeat and keeping pace with those above them in the points table. Who are you backing for the win?
