Right then, another game of the Indian T20 League 2024 ends with Lucknow coming on top to go number 3 on the points table after securing a comfortable win against Mumbai who have very few chances to make it to the playoffs now. Lucknow chased down 145 with 4 wickets in hand to gain the 2 points. The action continues in the Indian T20 League on 1st May, Wednesday, when Chennai take on Punjab at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). See you then. Cheers!

Marcus Stoinis is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his stellar all-round performance. He says that it was nice to bowl with the new ball but did not expect to bowl 3 overs in the Powerplay. States that the wicket was on the slower side but feels that they could have scored a bit faster. Shares that it was disappointing to get out and leave the finishing job to someone else. Adds that he wanted to put pressure on the off-spinner but the ball stuck in the surface and therefore, he could not get the desired connection. Mentions that this is his 3rd year now with Lucknow and he has been fortunate enough to be a part of the franchise. Ends by saying that he has built close bonds with people here and he is happy with the way the team is playing.

KL Rahul, the captain of Lucknow, admits to feeling a bit nervous during the chase but expresses confidence in the experienced middle-order batters like Pooran and Krunal. Despite a dry wicket, he believes that if Mumbai had set a target of 160-170, it would have been competitive. However, Lucknow's bowlers performed exceptionally, consistently taking wickets and easing the pressure on the batters. Securing the two points brings happiness to Rahul, but he acknowledges the need to address certain aspects of the team's performance, particularly in building momentum towards the end of the innings. Regarding Mayank Yadav's injury, Rahul reveals that although he hasn't spoken directly with Yadav, he noticed him experiencing slight pain after picking a wicket. As a precautionary measure, Yadav was advised to rest to avoid any potential risk.

... TIME FOR THE PRESENTATIONS ...

Justin Langer, the Head Coach of Lucknow, expresses his satisfaction with their victory over Mumbai, emphasizing the importance of every game in the competition. He highlights the significance of early wickets in the powerplay, noting that it sets the team up for success. Regarding Mayank's injury, Langer mentions that the player seems to be experiencing discomfort in the same area. Langer commends Marcus Stoinis for his impactful performance, both with the bat and in the field, emphasizing his value as a match winner. He acknowledges the crucial role Stoinis plays at the top of the order, especially after the team's initial challenges in the tournament.

The skipper of Mumbai, Hardik Pandya says that it is tough to recover from losing early wickets and that is what they could not do in this game. Adds that they did not lose wickets while trying to hit the ball hard. Shares that there will always be ups and downs but you have to give it your all. States that there were a lot of things to learn from this game. Says that Nehal Wadhera has been and feels that he will play a lot of Indian T20 League and play for India eventually.

In the first innings, Mumbai faced a rocky start after losing the toss, with early wickets falling and the scoreboard struggling at 28/4 in the powerplay. However, opener Ishan Kishan's calm presence alongside Nehal Wadhera stabilized the innings, guiding Mumbai to 57/4 at the halfway mark. Despite the initial setback, Tim David's explosive batting in the final overs and Wadhera's cautious approach during the middle overs propelled Mumbai to a competitive total of 144/7. Lucknow's bowlers, led by Mohsin Khan's 2/36, kept the pressure on, but Mumbai managed to post a fighting score which wasn't enough to stop the Lucknow batters from chasing it down.

It got too close for comfort for Lucknow but they got the 2 points and now sit at number 3 on the points table. Mumbai with this loss their playoff chances have become increasingly difficult. In the second innings, Lucknow chased down the target of 145 with four wickets in hand, securing their sixth victory of the season and strengthening their position on the table. The hosts displayed nerves of steel, holding their own against Mumbai's bowlers to clinch a thrilling win. Marcus Stoinis played a crucial role with a valuable half-century, steering Lucknow towards victory. Mumbai, on the other hand, faced their seventh defeat, further dimming their prospects of making it to the playoffs. Lucknow's all-round performance, backed by their bowlers' efforts and Stoinis' batting prowess, sealed a memorable win at home.

In the air....but it lands safely and Lucknow get over the line with 4 balls to spare! Dipping low full toss, at the stumps, Nicholas Pooran stays low and swings to go back over the bowler's head. This comes off the bottom part of the bat and skies it high in the air. However, Pooran gets enough bat on it to clear Tim David at mid off. They cross for a single and Lucknow win this clash by 4 wickets.

19.12

Intelligent batting by Pooran! Scores are level now. Angling into the left-hander, full and on middle, from around the wicket, Nicholas Pooran gets forward and tucks it in the vacant mid-wicket region for a couple of runs.

Mohammad Nabi will bowl the final over of the Match. Mumbai have been fined for slow over rate and now only 4 fielders are allowed outside the circle. Lucknow need 3 runs to win the match.

The batters go for a tight second run. Badoni has to put in the dive to make his ground at the batting end. It is a great throw from the deep by the substitute fielder, Naman Dhir, flat and right at the stumps. Ishan Kishan collects it cleanly but fails to disturb the stumps on the first attempt. He has a second shot at it but Badoni looks to be in by then due to the dive. However, the replays show that Badoni's bat popped up when the bails were taken off and before it bounced, no part of his bat was grounded inside the crease.

Commentary

Welcome back for Lucknow's reply. Hardik Pandya leads his troops out to the middle followed by the openers of Lucknow. As expected, Arshin Kulkarni comes in as the Impact Player for Lucknow, replacing Mayank Yadav. He walks out to open the innings alongside skipper, KL Rahul. Mumbai bring in Nuwan Thushara as their Impact Player in place of Suryakumar Yadav. Thushara will kickstart the proceedings with the new ball. Let's go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

As far as the conditions are concerned, the pitch looks to be on the slower side and the ball is holding in the surface. Having said that, Mumbai have fallen way short of where they would have hoped to be. Early inroads will be of utmost importance for Mumbai if they are to defend this total. As for Lucknow, they have their noses in front at the halfway mark and their bowlers have set the game up for them. Will the batters take them over the line? Back in a bit to find out.

Nehal Wadhera is in for a flash interview. He expresses regret over not staying till the end but believes their total is still competitive. He acknowledges the effectiveness of Lucknow's pacers and advises them to be strategic with their batting approach due to the turning ball. Wadhera emphasizes team success over personal milestones and highlights the significance of leading his team's recovery. He stresses the importance of returning to winning ways and acknowledges the pressure of needing victories in their remaining games. Understanding the challenge ahead, Wadhera emphasizes the need for sharpness in the field, recognizing that their target won't be easy to defend.

Restricting Mumbai to a total that looks well below par, Lucknow bowlers have vindicated their skipper's decision to bowl first. They never allowed Mumbai to get into the top gear and KL Rahul will be pleased with the bowling effort. Mohsin Khan and Marcus Stoinis set the tone, making the new ball talk to get rid of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, respectively. A brilliance in the field helped them see the back of Tilak Varma, and it did not take long for Naveen-ul-Haq to have his impact on the game. It would have been an even better start for Lucknow had Ashton Turner managed to hold onto the catch of Ishan Kishan when he was on 8 in Mayank Yadav's first over. In the middle phase, Lucknow kept a lid on the scoring rate, thanks primarily to Ravi Bishnoi, who was rewarded with the wicket of Ishan Kishan. Naveen-ul-Haq was impressive on his reintroduction to the attack and although Mohsin Khan managed to nip Nehal Wadhera in the bud, he went for 28 runs in his last couple of overs. Amidst all this, Mayank Yadav walked off the field immediately after getting rid of Mohammad Nabi in his final over and Lucknow will hope that they do not lose him again.

Tim David has given Mumbai the desired late flourish! 17 runs off the final over, and that has taken Mumbai to 144. However, this still does not look anywhere close to being enough. After being inserted into bat, Mumbai were rocked early as they lost Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav inside the first three overs. It went from bad to worse for Mumbai as a mix-up led to the downfall of Tilak Varma, followed by a golden duck for the skipper, Hardik Pandya. Ishan Kishan then got together with Nehal Wadhera to take his side out of choppy waters. The two southpaws knocked it around for ones and twos to keep the scoreboard ticking. However, Ishan perished before he could break free. Ishan's departure resulted in Wadhera taking the mantle of injecting momentum into the Mumbai innings. After Wadhera fell on 46, Tim David was left with the job of providing Mumbai with the finishing kick. Although, the penultimate over went for 4 runs, David came through for his side in the final over and took them past 140.

OUT! RUN OUT! More drama! Not the best of deliveries first up by Hardik Pandya as this is short and wide on off, Ayush Badoni frees his arms and cuts it to the left of deep point.

Lucknow need another 14 runs to win the game.

WIDE! Oh hang on, Lucknow have gone up in an appeal for caught behind but the umpire signals a wide. KL Rahul has a word with Deepak Hooda standing at mid-wicket who seems to have heard something. Uh oh, there is nothing on UltraEdge and Lucknow burn an early review. Stoinis strays down leg, on a good length, Ishan Kishan swings to heave it away but misses out on the connection and KL Rahul pouches it safely moving away to his right.

On the flipside, Mumbai are currently languishing second-from-bottom with just 3 victories from 9 matches and are desperate for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. They have put themselves in a territory where they just cannot afford to drop any more points, and even if they win all their remaining games, fate in their own hands will not be a guarantee. It has been a real struggle for them with the ball, with Jasprit Bumrah being the lone warrior, showing why he is the best in the business. Luke Wood and Nuwan Thushara have underperformed, as has Piyush Chawla, and the Mumbai fans will be hoping that Gerald Coetzee, who missed the last game due to a stomach bug, is fit enough to feature. As Mumbai aim to turn their campaign around, the top order, comprising Ishan Kishan, the birthday boy, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav, will have to fire on all cylinders. Will this dire situation bring the best out of Mumbai? We are about to find out. Stay tuned for the flip of the coin.

Lucknow find themselves placed 5th in the standings with 5 wins from 9 games but are coming off a defeat against Rajasthan. However, a win here against Mumbai in what will be their penultimate home game could take them as high as second in the standings. Captain KL Rahul has led by example and has adopted a more aggressive approach as compared to the previous seasons, which has boded well for the team. His opening partner, Quinton de Kock, has witnessed a dip in form, but it has not hampered them that much, with Marcus Stoinis and Deepak Hooda putting their hands up at different times. Having passed the fitness tests in the days leading up to the game, Lucknow's bowling will be bolstered with the possible return of the young, tearaway quick Mayank Yadav. Looking at the batting depth that Mumbai possess, a collective effort from the likes of Yash Thakur, Mohsin Khan, and Ravi Bishnoi will be key to the success of the hosts.

Hello and a warm welcome, folks from the 'City of Nawabs' where Lucknow will be taking on Mumbai at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in match number 48 of the 2024 Indian T20 League. Lucknow has been one of the two venues, with the other being Jaipur, where 200 is yet to be breached. Unlike other venues where teams have been turning up and scoring 200-plus scores for fun every single day, Lucknow has witnessed an equal contest between bat and ball, and this clash promises to be no different.

... MATCH DAY ...

As the Indian T20 League inches towards the climactic final stretch of group stage battles, the anticipation reaches a fever pitch with Match 48 of the season where Lucknow play host to Mumbai at the illustrious Ekana Cricket Stadium. With the league table becoming increasingly congested in the middle, each fixture assumes monumental significance, none more so than for these two formidable teams. This showdown marks their inaugural face-off this season, promising a spectacle of cricketing finesse as they vie for those vital two points in their quest for a spot in the playoffs. Following their impressive performances, Lucknow's momentum took a hit with a loss to table-toppers Rajasthan, slipping to the fifth position on the points table alongside four other teams, all with 10 points. As they gear up to host Mumbai in a crucial home game, the pressure is on for Lucknow to climb up the standings. In their recent match against Rajasthan, KL Rahul led the charge after a shaky start, with Deepak Hooda offering vital support, guiding the team to a competitive total of 196 runs. However, the bowling unit struggled to contain Rajasthan's batting onslaught, highlighting a persistent concern for Lucknow. As they approach the pivotal stages of the tournament, addressing these bowling woes is imperative. The imminent return of Mayank Yadav from injury could provide the much-needed boost to their bowling lineup, offering back their lost spark with the ball. Mumbai, however, find themselves grappling with a challenging season thus far, desperately seeking a turnaround. Suffering two consecutive losses, they languish at the penultimate position on the points table. In their recent clash against arch-rivals Delhi, Mumbai's bowling unit endured a torrid time, conceding a staggering 257 runs. While stalwarts like Jasprit Bumrah and Piyush Chawla have maintained consistency with the ball, the lack of support from other bowlers has been glaring. Moreover, the batting department, particularly the top order, has faltered in recent outings, which has been a crucial part of this side's success. With only Tilak Varma showcasing glimpses of form, Mumbai's batting lineup has struggled to fire collectively. To reverse their fortunes, Mumbai must rally together as a cohesive unit, summoning a collective effort to regain their lost momentum and spark a resurgence in their campaign. With stakes higher than ever and the stage well set, who do you think will get back to winning ways? We shall soon find out!
