Right then, we finally have all four playoff spots filled but still, we only know that Kolkata will finish top of the table and Bengaluru fourth. Hyderabad and Rajasthan both have a chance of sealing that crucial second spot which guarantees an extra chance of making it to the final and on the final day of the group stage, both teams will be in action. First, it will be Hyderabad taking on Punjab at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT) in Hyderabad and then, the final game of the group stage will see the top two sides, Rajasthan and Kolkata go head-to-head in Guwahati at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). You can join us early for the build-up of both those games. Till then, take care and goodbye!

Bengaluru skipper, Faf du Plessis is the Player of the Match for a brilliant knock and a sensational catch as well. Faf says that this is just unbelievable and the atmosphere was amazing and it is nice to to end the league stages in front of their home fans. Adds that after the rain break, the pitch was very tough to play on and it felt like a Day 5 Test pitch in Ranchi. Mentions that he and Virat Kohli were talking all the time and tried to get through that phase. Says that their batters have been contributing well in the last few games and they were trying to defend 175 to give them a cushion but it got close and when MS Dhoni was batting, he was just hoping it goes their way. In a nice gesture, he says that he wants to dedicate this award to Yash Dayal for his amazing bowling under pressure. Ends by saying that their fans have always backed them despite the results and it is important for them to enjoy this moment and then look at the playoffs.

The Presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the game, Chennai won the toss and opted to bowl first on a day where conditions were overcast and there was something in it for the frontline bowlers. However, Bengaluru started on the front foot but there was some rain after the first 3 overs and once the game restarted, the surface changed completely and the ball turned left, right and center but Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis managed to keep ticking and set the platform. They did lose a few wickets in the middle phase but even Rajat Patidar and Cameron Green played top knocks and a couple of small cameos from DK and Glenn Maxwell took the hosts to 218 big runs. On the bowling front, the spinners did well for Chennai but surprisingly Ravindra Jadeja had an off day as he was hit away for plenty of runs and so were the pacers. Mitchell Santner and Maheesh Theekshana bowled very economically but it didn't matter much. Coming to the chase, it went down the wire but the hosts managed to pick up enough wickets which proved to be decisive.

Lockie Ferguson is now down for a quick chat. Lockie says that he isn't sure how to put it into words but it was a team effort and it was difficult to bowl at the death with the ball getting wet and lauds Yash Dayals for the way he bowled. Adds that the nature of bowling here is to keep the batters guessing, there is some pace and bounce but the ball does grip as well like it did in this game. Mentions that the wicket was doing a bit on a length and they knew how good Ravindra Jadeja could hit the yorkers as well.

The Chennai skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad is down for a chat. Gaikwad says that it was gripping a bit for the spinners but 200 was still gettable on this wicket. Adds that they kept losing wickets which cost them and it was just about a couple of big hits that can happen in a T20 game. Tells that not having their best squad for all the games was challenging as they missed Matheesha Pathirana, Mustafizur Rahman and Devon Conway. Mentions that he is still happy with how his side has performed despite of all the challenges and personal milestones does not matter for him but he is also slightly disappointed as they failed to make it to the playoffs.

A bitter pill to swallow for Chennai and maybe this was MS Dhoni's last dance, which we speculate almost every year but he gave it his all and so did the team but they were undone by a few injuries and some great cricket from the opposition in the latter half of the season. Rachin Ravindra had a slim maiden season in the Indian T20 League but he showed his prowess in the big game and alongside Ajinkya Rahane, he steadied the ship after losing two early wickets. Once Rahane fell, Rachin had to go at the bowlers more as Shivam Dube couldn't get going and it all went downhill when Rachin got run out. This triggered a mini collapse and left the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni a lot to do. The dup did hit a few lusty blows but Dhoni getting out on 19.2 was the final nail in the coffin.

What a game this was from the home side, Bengaluru and backed by a vociferous crowd their players stepped up and got the job done. They had the score on the board but only one number mattered and that was 201 and they managed to keep Chennai to 10 runs under that. The hosts did get a fine start with the ball as Glenn Maxwell got Ruturaj Gaikwad on the very first ball and then they got Daryl Mitchell as well. There was resistance in the middle but once again Bengaluru managed to pick up multiple wickets in a short frame of time before almost losing the plot in the final 4 overs. Yash Dayal bowled a pressure final over after both Mohammed Siraj and Lockie Ferguson had gone for plenty in the previous two overs and Dayal conceded a six off the first ball but he stuck to his guns and conceded just one more run, truly re-establishing himself after what happened last season against Rinku Singh, great redemption story for the pacer.

THE MAYHEM IN CHINNASWAMY! An absolute Indian T20 League classic and Bengaluru, against all odds have done the impossible and have somehow pipped Chennai to make it through to the playoffs. The threat of rain loomed large and there was a passing shower as well and Bengaluru needed to make sure they won by at least 18 runs but they have ended up winning by 27 runs and a string of six miraculous wins on the trot sees them seal the fourth and final playoffs berth. Spare a thought for Chennai though who made a roaring comeback in the latter stages and the duo of Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni almost snatched victory but it wasn't meant to be and the reigning champions are out of the competition.

Another dot! Yash Dayal has done it! He bangs this one short of a length and outside off again, no pace at all, Ravindra Jadeja goes for the pull but misses again. BENGALURU WIN BY 27 RUNS AND MAKES IT TO THE PLAYOFFS!

19.50

Redemption for Yash Dayal! He sticks with his off-pace delivery, full and outside off, Ravindra Jadeja goes through his heave early and misses. Barring a No Ball, the home side will got through to the playoffs now. Yash Dayal and every Bengaluru player start celebrating and Chinnaswamy has gone wild now!

19.41

Pitched up and around off, slower once again, Shardul Thakur swings wildly across the line, gets an outside edge towards short third man for a single. Ravindra Jadeja needs to 10 off the last two balls to get his side home.

19.30

A crucial dot now! Yash Dayal takes pace off again, short of a length and on off, Shardul Thakur tries to pull but misses. Ravindra Jadeja gets stranded at the other end. Chennai need 11 off 3 now to qualify.

Shardul Thakur walks in to bat next.

19.2W

OUT! TAKEN! Oh..another twist in the tale! MS Dhoni has to walk back and Yash Dayal gets a huge wicket now. He brings out the slower one again, full and on leg. MS Dhoni tries to go for the big slog but gets a bit of a top edge towards deep square leg, Swapnil Singh settles under it and takes the catch under immense pressure. MS Dhoni will be disappointed as that was there to be put away but he has played a good cameo here.

19.16

SIX! OUT OF THE GROUND! New Ball Please! Yash Dayal goes full and around leg, slower too, MS Dhoni picks it up and absolute whips it away over the fine leg fence for a massive maximum. This is out of the stadium. 110 METERS!

Bengaluru basically have just 16 runs to play with in the final over. They have the option to go to either Cameron Green or Yash Dayal for the final over and it will be Yash Dayal who is entrusted to get Bengaluru over the line here. Also, the hosts are behind on the over rate and will have an extra fielder inside the ring.

SIX! Into the crowd! Lockie Ferguson goes into the pitch once again, on pace, Ravindra Jadeja is already on his back foot waiting for this length, he whacks it away over the deep mid-wicket fence for a biggie. 17 runs needed in the last over for Chennai to qualify and MS Dhoni will be on strike.

18.51

Back fo a length and on middle, angling in, MS Dhoni gets hurried and miscues his pull through square leg for just one. A huge ball coming up.

18.44

FOUR! Fine shot! Lockie Ferguson goes a bit fuller this time, outside off, MS Dhoni swings hard and smacks it over extra covers for another boundary. 24 needed off 8 now for Chennai to qualify.

18.31

Hard length, on leg, cramps up the batter, Ravindra Jadeja nudges it towards deep mid-wicket for a run.

Halt! Just a slight halt in proceedings as Ravindra Jadeja and Lockie Ferguson collide at the bowler's end and Jadeja seems to be a bit rattled having taken a body blow to the helmet. Thankfully, he is fine and we are good to continue.

18.24

FOUR! Just what Chennai needed! Lockie Ferguson lands this on a good length but down the leg side, Ravindra Jadeja nicely flicks it over short fine leg for a boundary.

18.11

Gets away with it! Full and on middle, MS Dhoni looks to slog it away but mistimes it towards deep mid-wicket for a single.

18.11nb

Oh...wow! That is a huge No Ball! Lockie Ferguson loses his grip and bowls a full toss that goes way over the head of the batter, MS Dhoni cannot do anything with that. Free Hit coming up now. The umpires having a chat with Ferguson as this is the second beamer from him.

Commentary

We are back for the all-important chase! The Bengaluru players are in a huddle receiving some last-minute pep talk from Virat Kohli. They spread out to take their respective field positions now. The umpire signals an 'X' and Swapnil Singh is the Impact Player for the home side replacing Rajat Patidar. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra are the two openers for Chennai. We will see some spin straightaway as Glenn Maxwell will start proceedings with the ball. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Chennai, on the other hand, started well with Tushar Deshpande bowling a good first over but they couldn't build on it. The rain delay helped them a bit as after that, Maheesh Theekshana and Mitchell Santner used the conditions nicely and pulled things back a bit but Jadeja was quite expensive. Once the spinners finished their spells, the conditions also got better for batting and the pacers could not really contain the batters that much. Shardul Thakur ended up with a couple of wickets but was very expensive while Deshpande and Santner chipped in with one each. Ruturaj Gaikwad also dropped Green at 18 and that cost them a few in the end but their death bowling was also not up to the mark as they conceded 80 runs in the last five overs. Now, it is up to their batters to take up this challenge and chase down their biggest ever total against Bengaluru. However, if they manage to score 201, they will qualify for the playoffs. A huge run- chase coming up for us. Join us in a bit to catch all the action.

Cameron Green is up for a quick chat. He says that the wicket was a bit tough and is happy with the score and hopes that the wicket stays the same in the next innings. Mentions that Faf and Virat batted beautifully and gave them a platform to build on and it was similar to Dharamsala where there was some turn after the rain. Adds that with the extra batter, you can go at the bowlers from the 14-15th overs.

Bengaluru after a quite first over got going nicely with Virat Kohli taking the charge with Faf du Plessis struggling a bit. However, their momentum was halted due to a rain stoppage. After the break, the pitch suddenly started turning a lot making it difficult for both batters to score freely and it took them a few overs to get used to it. Once they did, they started the attack again but unfortunately, Kohli was dismissed just short of his fifty. Skipper Faf continued to rack up the runs and notched up a crucial half-century but got out in the most unfortunate way at the non-striker's end. It was then the in-form Rajat Patidar along with Cameron Green who went all guns blazing taking apart the Chennai bowlers. A couple of crucial cameos from DK and Glenn Maxwell helped them get to this big total while Green remained unbeaten on 38 off just 17 balls.

Bengaluru finishes off on a high! They have posted a huge total on the board and now that 18-run margin looks much likelier. It was a complete batting performance as almost everyone contributed excellently and they will feel a lot more confident of defending it. Chennai will be really disappointed as they have made it difficult for themselves and will need to bat their skins out to make it to the next round.

A dot to end! Shardul Thakur comes from around the stumps and bowls it seam up, on a good length and in the channel around off, angling it back in sharply. Mahipal Lomror looks to play it away on the off side but is beaten past the outside edge. Bengaluru get 13 runs off the final over and finish with 218/5 on the board!

Mahipal Lomror walks out to bat now.

19.5W

OUT! CAUGHT! Shardul Thakur does get rid of Glenn Maxwell with one ball remaining in the innings. Thakur brings out the slower one and bowls it into the pitch and at the batter. Maxwell is taken aback and just goes after it but the ball goes off the top edge and id lobbed high around square leg. MS Dhoni calls for it from behind the stumps and take sit safely.

19.44

FOUR! That was begging to be hit and that's poor bowling from Shardul Thakur. A waist-height full toss wide of the off stump, Glenn Maxwell reaches out and slaps it away square through covers for a boundary.

19.36

SIX! Shardul Thakur misses the yorker by a few inches and Glenn Maxwell punishes him. A low full toss angled in on middle and leg, Maxwell powers the ball over long on for a biggie.

19.22

Hit hard but not quite in the gap! Full and angled in at the toes, Glenn Maxwell clears the front leg and hits it firmly just in front of deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs.

19.11

Not quite timed! A low full toss on middle and angling in, Cameron Green stays deep in the crease and hits it off the toe end of the bat, flat and well in front of long on for just a single.

Who will bowl the last over? It will be Shardul Thakur.

18.64

FOUR! That is streaky but Glenn Maxwell will take it with both hands. A slower bumper over middle stump, Maxwell is very early to set up for the reverse hit but is beaten by the lack of pace and the ball ends up lobbing off the gloves and over the keeper's head and eventually trickles into the fence.

Glenn Maxwell comes out to the middle now.

18.5W

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Tushar Deshpande pushes the ball wide of the off stump yet again but bowls it on a heavy length this time. Dinesh Karthik goes chasing after it and ends up getting a fine outside edge that carries through to the keeper and MS Dhoni makes no mistake behind the stumps. DK will feel he has done his job but Deshpande finally gets a wicket.

18.44

FOUR! That is some skill from Dinesh Karthik and he has fooled everyone here. Full and wide again, DK shuffles a long way across and threatens to go over fine leg but at the last moment just reverse ramps it between the keeper and short third for a boundary. The 200 also comes up for bengaluru.

18.36

SIX! Enough on it to clear the ropes! Full and wide again, Dinesh Karthik knew exactly what he wanted to do and shuffles across the off stump before picking it up and slogging it over deep mid-wicket for a maximum.

18.31wd

WIDE! Too short and too wide outside off, left alone for another extra run.

18.21

Oh, that must have stung! A low full toss outside off stump, Cameron Green pings it straight back and the ball hits the leg of the bowler Tushar Deshpande and rolls away through mid on. Just the single then and it has been a fine over from Deshpande so far.

18.21wd

WIDE! On a good length and well outside off, flirting with the tramline, Cameron Green swings wildly across the line but misses and a wide is called. Ruturaj Gaikwad has reviewed it though and it seems pretty close. The third umpire deems that Green's stance was a few inches outside off but concludes that there's no evidence of overturning the decision.

18.11

Full and wide outside off, gets it bang on, Dinesh Karthik squeezes it away past the point region and picks up a single.

Another full toss, angled into middle and leg, Dinesh Karthik can't get under it and ends up swatting it off the inner half of the bat to mid-wicket for a quick single.

17.52

Good fielding! Full and wide, Dinesh Karthik waits for it and opens the bat face late to just angle it fine of third man where Ravindra Jadeja scampers across and keeps it down to two.

Dinesh Karthik is the next man in.

17.4W

OUT! CAUGHT! Daryl Mitchell with another perfectly judged catch in the deep and Shardul Thakur gets a vital wicket. Thakur takes pace off this one and serves a dipping full toss on the stumps, Rajat Patidar makes a bit of room to get under it and whack it away but the ball goes off the toe end of the bat. It is lofted high and towards the long on fence where Mitchell takes it around his head and yet again lobs it up so that he can go out of bonds and come back in to pouch it safely. A solid cameo from Patidar though.

17.31

Much better from Shardul Thakur as he gets this one in the blockhole around off stump, Cameron Green jams it down to long on for a single.

17.26

SIX MORE! Slower ball, bowled into the pitch around off and just sits up nicely for the batter. Cameron Green goes after the half-tracker and hoicks it over deep mid-wicket yet again for another maximum.

17.16

SIX! A juicy full toss and Cameron Green gleefully accepts the gift. A waist-height full toss over middle, Green swings it away with raw power over deep mid-wicket for a biggie.

OUT! CAUGHT! Would you believe it? The Chennai skipper, their backbone, departs first ball in a crunch game and Ruturaj Gaikwad is very disappointed with himself. Glenn Maxwell with the golden arm though. Maxwell starts from over the stumps and drops it short over middle, turning it in, Gaikwad just looks to rock back and help it on its way but tamely lobs it in front of short fine where Yash Dayal leans forward to take the catch. What a start to the chase!

OUT!

SIX! The extra delivery has cost Chennai big time as Rajat Patidar sends the ball sailing into the crowd. Pitched up right in the slot around off, Patidar gets a bit low and smacks the ball pretty high and well over deep square leg for a biggie. 16 off that over!

WIDE! Short and wide outside off, the attempted slower bumper and it is left alone for a wide.

16.40

Good change-up delivery from Tushar Deshpande as he bowls this one slower and on a good length outside off. Rajat Patidar has a swipe across the line but is beaten for the lack of pace.

16.31

Nice and full again outside the off stump, Cameron Green can only hit the low full toss down to long off for a single.

16.21

On the bounce! Pitched up wide of the off stump, Rajat Patidar goes after it again but gets it off the toe end of the bat. The ball gets sliced up and lands in front of Ajinkya Rahane coming in from long off. They get a single.

16.16

SIX! Stand and deliver! Banged in on a hard length and over middle stump, Rajat Patidar just stays put and goes after it, whacking it high and just over the long on fence for a maximum.

Strategic-Break! Chennai are suddenly looking like a side not knowing what to do at the moment and their skipper has just dropped an easy chance that could hurt them a lot. They will hope that in these last four overs they can at least restrict the home side to under 200 but they will need to bowl really well. Bengaluru are in a good position and with both Rajat Patidar and Cameron Green firing, they will look to go well beyond that 200-run mark keeping in mind that they will need to win this game by 18 runs or more. A really exciting last phase of this innings coming up for us.

The ball is hit with immense power and Gaikwad spills it and not just that but it trickles into the fence. 17 off that over!

15.51

OUT! RUN OUT! So, so unfortunate for Faf du Plessis and Bengaluru! Mitchell Santner bowls this quick again, full and on middle, Rajat Patidar drills it really hard down the pitch, and Santner goes ground and tries to stop it with his right hand, but the ball takes the slightest of deflection of his finger and crashes onto the stumps at the bowler's end with Faf trying to get back to his crease. After a few replays, the third umpire deems that Faf's bat was still in the air when the stumps were broken. UltraEdge shows a spike when the ball passes the finger and the home captain has to walk back now. The Bengaluru hut is a bit disappointed with that decision but the evidence shows that it is the right one.

Is that out? There is an appeal for a run out and the third umpire is called in. The replays are thoroughly checked and the third umpire concludes that the ball was just in the air when the bails came off. Next up, the third umpire checks for the deviation off the fingers and there is a spike as the ball was next to the fingers of Mitchell Santner and it is confirmed that Faf du Plessis is just OUT. This could be a big moment in the game.

Then the Chennai players stride out to the middle and takes their places on the field. Tushar Deshpande has been handed the new ball and he is raring to go. Let's play...

Bengaluru's skipper, Faf du Plessis says that they would have fielded as well but they batted first in the last game as well, so, it is fine. Adds that the toss isn't that bkig of a deal and you just want to go out there and play and they have got a lot of confidence from the last 5 games. Mentions that these two teams vying for the playoff spot is a big contest and adds that they know the equation and what they need to do but that's a long way away and just want to play their brand of cricket.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of Chennai says that they will bowl first. Adds that the wicket looks good and due to the cloud cover they would like to use the conditions early on. Mentions that every game is a must win in this tournament and they have been in this kind of situations in the last season. TOSS - The flip of the coin lands in favor of Chennai and Ruturaj Gaikwad has decided to BOWL first.

Chennai on the other hand have the advantage of NRR over their opponents. They haven't been consistent with their wins throughout the season which has led them to this situation where they can be eliminated for this season. With MS Dhoni rumoured to retire after this season the team will want to go ahead in the league. Rachin Ravindra will need to improve his form to gice a good start to the team. The young skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad is in brilliant form with power hitters like Daryl Mitchell and Shivam Dube to follow. Dhoni has also been quite explosive with the bat towards the extreme death overs and it pleases the fans. Their bowling also doesn't have any chinks in their armor. Tushar Deshpande has been leaking runs but he strikes at crucial times and has become their go-to seamer. Simarjeet Singh also put up an impressive performance in their previous game and with the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Maheesh Theekshana they don't have to worry about spin in the middle overs. If the rain allows this match is expected to be a spectacle to watch and all eyes will be on the game as both teams battle for the number 4 spot on the table. Stay tuned for further updates.

Bengaluru is playing it's last match at home for this season and the qualification scenario for them is to beat their rivals by 18 runs of 11 balls assuming the first innings score is 200 to improve their NRR and cement their spot at number 4. It is a big blow for them that Will Jacks has left for England to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup. With Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Dinesh Karthik, and Rajat Patidar in form with the bat Bengaluru look strong but their troubles with the ball continue. It is a must win game for them and it would be a miraculous run for the home team to qualify after being in the bottom half of the table.

Hello and a very warm welcome folks. The Indian T20 League is in full swing and it is time for match 68 which is the big knockout. The ultimate showdown between Bengaluru and Chennai at the iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, the rain gods are not showing any mercy and it is expected to not stop for a while.

... MATCH DAY ...

The penultimate league stage day of the 17th edition of the Indian T20 League promises a clash of epic proportions as Bengaluru take on Chennai in match number 68 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. As is typical in every edition, the final week of the league stage is packed with high-stakes matches that influence the playoff race, and this season is no different. Kolkata, Rajasthan, and Hyderabad have secured their playoff spots, leaving Chennai, Bengaluru, and Lucknow vying for the final spot. Faf du Plessis' Bengaluru has shown remarkable resilience this season. After a dismal start with seven losses in their first eight games, few would have predicted their current position. Yet, they have bounced back impressively, winning their next five matches to stay in contention for the playoffs. Should 200 runs be scored in the first inning of the game, Bengaluru need to win by a margin of at least 18 runs, but if they bat second, they must chase down their target within 18.1 overs to qualify for the playoffs. Virat Kohli has been instrumental in Bengaluru's turnaround, showcasing remarkable consistency with the bat. Throughout the competition, he has been ably supported by Rajat Patidar, Will Jacks, and Faf du Plessis at various stages. With Jacks now on national duty, Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell will need to step up to fill the void. Mohammed Siraj, after a slow start to the season, has found his form, providing crucial support to Yash Dayal. For Bengaluru to succeed in this pivotal clash, a collective effort from the entire team is essential. Lockie Ferguson will need to bring his best, while the spin duo of Swapnil Singh and Karn Sharma will play a key role in keeping the opposition in check. As for Chennai, the path to the playoffs is more straightforward, and they are in the best position among the teams still vying for a spot. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Co. need just one point to secure their place in the playoffs. With Kolkata already locked in the top spot, the coveted second position is still up for grabs. Chennai has a good chance of claiming it if they win against Bengaluru and both Rajasthan and Hyderabad lose their respective matches. In his maiden season as the captain of Chennai, Ruturaj Gaikwad has led from the front and has done the heavy lifting for his side. Shivam Dube has been sensational with his ball striking and has given the desired impetus to the Chennai innings during the middle phase. While Ajinkya Rahane's form has been a concern, the inclusion of Rachin Ravindra at the top and Daryl Mitchell at number three has stabilised the top order. With Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana absent, Tushar Deshpande has taken on the role of leading the pace attack admirably. Simarjeet Singh and Shardul Thakur have also contributed effectively. Despite only taking eight wickets, Ravindra Jadeja has maintained his reputation for being economical, keeping the runs in check. Adding another layer of intrigue to this high-stakes clash is the looming possibility of rain on matchday. A washout would see Chennai through to the playoffs, thereby ending Bengaluru’s campaign. Who are you backing to come out on top in this clash of titans?
